The only two sources of mcq were tommyk's concepts and USMLE CD. I didn't know about UW then
No kaplan, no NBME, basically only FA and good old textbooks....got 229/95
moral of the story: Know your concepts very well. Be ready to answer whichever way they are asked.
Step 2 followed the same routine. However added UW and crush step 2. Crush has more surgery concepts than FA. Scores were 238/96. idonno if the slight increase was due to UW. took step 2 in May 07. Could have taken atleast a month earlier as step1 concepts were still fresh and had to just add on to them

friends,
my post was in no means to shatter your self confidence. I personally didn't go for KAPLAN or NBME because of financial reasons. So I just meant this to be an encouragement for those who cannot afford all the sources available out there. What i couldnot do with dollars, i did with my time. I spent approx 10 hrs/day for 5 days in a week
Please donot misunderstand me..I sincerely thought my post will be an encouragement to somebody out there

It is unbelievable .
I received yesterday an email saying that my score was reported, i was so anxious as i mentioned before because i only prepared for 1 week for step 2 ck .
I used oasis trick and it came saying
"ELIGIBILITY PERIOD SOMETHING IS ...." in red color , Immediately i closed my browser and i was sure I FAAAIIILED .
I said i will not check my score to be 100% sure i failed because i am oncall on the same day , i want peace .
But in the midnight of my oncall , i took a deep breath and clicked on the pdf file to see my score.
I removed my eyeglasses so i dont see clearly
after 5 seconds i barely saw the word "PASS" 
REALY i couldont beleive it .
and it was my score 96%.

This wud have been the "classic underdog story " if u have had gotten 99 in both steps. Man this sucks u ruined my season finale. Well i still believe Martin Scorsese was overrated wiht the movie "The Departed" cos this was a remake of the Asian movie Internal Affairs which was more of a original and seat gripping tension.

Ok I want to try this 'Gullible stuff',
Wow people , my dear friends .... iam very happy today , its my luckiest day.. suddenly I got a red envelope, and opened it slowly .. to my surprise .. it was my CK score ... it was 66 ... I was very sad for one whole day ..then it flashed ...
I rushed to get the envelope ..but the garbage truck had picked it up and was around the corner... but I went ....blah blah ......
.....then I realised ...OMG I had read my score upside down .... it is 99 guys ,....
And guess what ..I DIDNT EVEN WRITE MY CK.

Well Cutemek.. serioussly do u think u will get residecy??..i mean the PD may get really really insecure abt his position after knowing ur prep time coz he will feel if u done prep in 1-2 weeks, then residency in 1-2 mmonths and then his position...U need to seriouslly give it a thought?? what say???
Anyways jokes aside....All i can say is u did it man.....CONGRATULATIONS

May be he is telling the truth but not the whole truth. May be he was studying his b*** off for the shelf exams or his medical school qualifying exam few weeks or months ago. And he counts the time he was doing UW qbank only as the time of CK preparation.
Many AMGs say they got >240 with only 2-3 weeks of study. But their actual study time( time of study for their shelf exam) is much longer.

I agree with maki.. I have seen some people getting highest in my med school whith 1 month of serious prep. some people are really strong in concepts & memorization & we never know others level of intelligence.
