Finally I did Both Steps In One Week !!

Hello Guys Girls

This Is my first post in your forum .

Why I did both steps in one week >>> This is a long story ...

But let me give How I prepared ...

USMLE STEP 1

Preparation only in 6 weeks .

Sources:

FIRST AID USMLE STEP 1 (2 readings)
UW : NO
KAPLAN:NO
NBME:NO

other BOOKS : NO

I Know that was not enough but because of shortage of time and other duties.

Real Exam.:

I slept 3 hours before exam ONLY and I didnot take my breakfast
The Exam in KUWAIT and i am from SAUDI ARABIA .

First 5 Q IN The first BLock >>> OOOH I WILL DO BAD ..
then rest of the block1 + 2+3+4 +5 >>>WOW Is This step 1 or
step 2 ck ...Most of Q in those block it took me seconds to know the answer .
Last block very difficult Bioch.+ behavioral

Weird Q :

* HMG COA REDUCATSE INHIBITOR , WHAT IS THE MECHANISM OF ACTION OF THIS DRUG !!!

AND THERE IS NO CHOICE FOR HMG COA REDUCTASE I. ???
HE MENTIONED THE MECHANISMS OF ALL OTHER LIPID L D IN THE CHOICES ???

in general i feel i did good i beleive that i will pass but i am not sure about the score .

1- prepare at least for 3 months
2- know first aid very well read it more than once .
3-read more anatomy ,pathology ,genetics than first aid

Score : 90/218

USMLE STEP 2CK

Preparation only in ONE week .

UW : only for OBG
KAPLAN:NO
NBME:NO

other BOOKS : NO

Real Exam.:

Difficult OBG /PSYCHATRY ,others are OK.

Score: 96/232

You did only FA and no other book??

Then you say you read more anatomy, path, and genetics---from where?

I told you before it was because of shortage of time .

and my concept was keep rereading the stuff you already finished before better than reveiwing books or MCQS in a short time .

it sounds weird i know shaking head

for step 2 ck only i read UW OBG sections .

I prepared for step 2 ck in one week only !!

I am sure i will pass (enshaalah) and i think my score will be 80-90 wink

i took my step1 in jan 07 (10 years after i graduated from med school)
Started preparing in Sept 06
My bible was first aid. at my first reading I went back to my old text books to get a detailed picture of all the concepts in FA
B4 the exam I knew FA from cover to cover (almost) and also all the notes i had jotted down in FA from my text books.
I also did webpath for patho pix as i had no atlas
The only two sources of mcq were tommyk's concepts and USMLE CD. I didn't know about UW then

No kaplan, no NBME, basically only FA and good old textbooks....got 229/95

moral of the story: Know your concepts very well. Be ready to answer whichever way they are asked.

Step 2 followed the same routine. However added UW and crush step 2. Crush has more surgery concepts than FA. Scores were 238/96. idonno if the slight increase was due to UW. took step 2 in May 07. Could have taken atleast a month earlier as step1 concepts were still fresh and had to just add on to them

oh plz people ,this forum should be place for taking our morale high but not too shatter our self confidence and making us feeel like BIIIG DUMBO and .........,so plz if they are extraordinary intellectulas with extra Blessings of God preparing in two weeks and scoring high,do us favour ,be SILENT reader of posts here as u were before.......... raised eyebrow

Why should we be silent?? We're all entitled to our opinions and ideas.

No one's shattering anyone's confidence. If this person so strongly believes in themselves then fine, but we also strongly believe in what we've written and feel. It's these kinds of exam experiences that are misleading for genuine students.

You need a reality check if you think one book is going to do it for you.
