i have 2 more to cheer you up ;
HARVARD MEDICAL SCHOOL _cost : 3200 dolars/month for international students

The Harvard Medical School Exchange Clerkship Program is one of the largest visiting student programs in the country. Each year, the HMS Registrar’s Office places approximately 800 to 900 students from medical schools all over the world into clerkships taught at HMS-affiliated teaching hospitals. Our goal is to send those students into your hospitals who are ready for the clinical experience. To continue this effort, we’d like to take this opportunity to share with you some information about the Exchange Clerkship Program, and to answer some of the more commonly-asked questions received by our office.

The Harvard Medical School Exchange Clerkship Program is one of the largest visiting student programs in the country. Each year, our office places approximately 800 to 900 students from medical schools all over the world into elective clerkships taught at HMS-affiliated teaching hospitals. Our goal is to send students into your hospitals who are ready for the clinical experience. To continue this effort, we’d like to take this opportunity to share with you some information about the Exchange Clerkship Program, and to answer some of the more commonly-asked questions received by our office. Please share this information with your colleagues.

Some data about the program:
Annually, we process over 1,000 applications from final year medical students from schools other than Harvard. Of the eligible applicants, we are able to schedule almost 90% for clinical elective clerkships at affiliated teaching hospitals of Harvard Medical School.

Which students are eligible to participate?
To be considered eligible, students must be in their final year of medical school. The educational systems of many non-U.S. or Canadian medical schools range in duration from 4 to 5 or even 6 years. Thus, in a 6 year medical school system (i.e. German medical schools), the student must be in their 6th year to be considered the equivalent of a U.S. 4th year student.

What courses are open to visiting exchange clerks?
Many of the clinical electives listed in the HMS course catalog are open to outside students; others are not. Core clerkships and semester-long courses are not open to exclerks. In addition, some elective clerkships accept visiting students from the United States and Canada, but not from foreign countries. We do not allow exchange clerks to do independent studies, nor do we make arrangements for research. If you are uncertain as to whether or not your particular clerkship should accept a visiting student, please contact our office.

Are there any fees or tuition for this program?
All applicants to the HMS Exchange Clerkship Program must pay a $100.00 application processing fee for each month for which they are applying. In addition, international exchange clerks pay a tuition charge for each month they are scheduled. As of September, 2005, tuition is $2,950.00 per month. This tuition represents 1/12 of the tuition paid annually by Harvard Medical School MD candidates.

cincinnati unversity :

Visiting Students

The Immunization Form and Visiting Student Application require the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.

The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine offers electives for medical students from U.S. and international medical schools. A maximum of two four-week electives can be taken for a total of eight weeks.

Our senior electives are designed specifically for students who have already completed one full year of in-hospital clinical training prior to an anticipated elective. It is necessary that visiting students first complete basic clerkships in medicine, surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, family medicine and obstetrics/gynecology before participating in these electives. Prospective applicants who have already graduated from medical school are not eligible to participate.

General Information

For purposes of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine Visiting (Exchange) Student Program, schools are categorized as (1) domestic – accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education [LCME] or American Osteopathic Association [AOA], and (2) international – all other schools.

Details of the rules, regulations and requirements for this program are included in the Visiting Student Program Guidelines as approved by Faculty Council.

All visiting students are subject to the rules and regulations that apply to UCCOM students and to any health care facilities to which they are assigned. Violation of any school policy may result in immediate withdrawal from the program. Registration and continued participation in the program is based on satisfactory academic performance and behavior. Any student whose performance is substandard or unsatisfactory may be administratively withdrawn by the UCCOM Dean’s Office with no further right of appeal.

Application Process

* Applications must be completed at least 4 weeks prior to the start of the rotation and returned to the appropriate department chair.
* Once a student has been scheduled for a clerkship, no changes in the assignment are allowed.
* All international students must be approved for a rotation by a clinical department before the completed application is sent to the Registrar. Final approval for participation in a clerkship can only be granted by the Registrar.
* The student must obtain departmental approval for the elective.
* Applications must be sent to specific department adresses. The department will forward the application to the Registrar.
* The student must submit with the application verification of health insurance by a U.S. carrier.
* All documents must be translated into the English language. Only originals with signatures are accepted. Photocopies are not acceptable.

Incomplete applications will not be processed.

It's actually $2000/4-week elective at Weill Cornell Medical College. smiling face

I assumed it was for the longest period you could stay there, which is 8 weeks. Oh well, that makes it even more expensive!

Do you have an experience there ... or anywhere else?

Those Visiting Electives which you need to Pay high Tuitions for, wouldn't they provide a better teaching atmosphere? Wouldn't they treat you better?

"if the clinical training opportunities at your school would not be credited for UCLA students by UCLA, please be advised that it is not likely we would be in a position to accommodate your request."

"You must be a final-year medical student attending a school with whom we have a reciprocal relationship."

What is that supposed to mean? raised eyebrow
