How to ask for prematch

Do they offer or even we can ask based on our performance and interest in the program.
Has anyone received it by asking to the PD.What do they say.D they offer it right away or say I will to discuss withthe other faculty and will let you know.
Anyone got positive response after that means prematch.

Again, every program is going to have a different way of handling this.
