Zero!

They get in by paying so called 'donation'.

An example.

Dunno but I mean i wonder that if an amg browses img application threads he/she'd have a fit! I know a couple of amgs from relations and they apply to say 10-30 programs of their choice and get min 60-70% interviews and then attend only selected from those!! I mean the numbers of programs we as imgs apply to [ and the ivs we get] is almost ridiculously funny compared to them! Sometimes makes me feel i should just go back to India and just enjoy the feeling of being at the same fair level of competition again!disapproval

Fair level?

what about reservation and donation categories? In the hospital where I did my undergraduation, only 2 out of 10 Medicine PG seats went to meritorious candidates.

The rest were gobbled up by , sports quota, ecnomically backward, NRI's, Foreigners & Donation categories.

first one is a dead link

not really feeling the going to school in China. I know I would do something dumb, and then I would be locked up in a little 2 x2 cell till I'm 60. At least in the US I can pay a lawyer and walk away, and in India, I can pay the officer. grin

very very good point, fara! it frustrates the h*** out of me.mad i think i'll get a more level playing field outside, eg in the US, in spite of the odds stacked against me. and, the worst part is when people start waxing eloquent about patriotism. yeah, right!! i'll tell you what patriotism is: when you even leave of you have to, do well, and make your country proud.

sorry for the outburst. i feel very strongly about this, mad as you probably have guessed!

Aww Aww AWW!!! there's some outburst there!

Before judging that everyone in India goes on to do PG on donation sits take facts in to account.

There is something called All India Post graduate entrance Examination and state post grad entrances where no one goes on donations, and which provides most of the sits for PG. Plus most of medical students in India go in to MBBS on their merits through throat cutting competitions, so before making stupid generalizations please look in to the facts.

Now the biting point and one of the biggest reasons of increases migration of Indian students is the RESERVATION. Now 50% of sits are on reservations and for the rest 50 the competition is one of the toughest in the world. Lots of protest and tumult went in to opposing the proposal of increasing the reservation last year; but all in vain, courtesy politics. I admit this is THE worst point about Indian Medical [in fact, entire] education system,

But still the rest of the 50% are going in on open merits and my comment was concerning them because I went to med school on merits and I know what it takes to enter a Government medical college in India on open merits.

And as far as the donation sits rants are concerned US aren't completely heaven, because here also you can get residencies with right contacts regardless of your cv and stuff.Look around you [ provided you are in US ] and you'll certainly see people getting in because of right contacts. Accepted it doesn't happen all the time , but then it doesn't happen all the time in India too.

I am not preaching a patriotic rant. I have been in US since quite sometime and I am actually studying/researching here and I precisely know the opportunity this country is giving to outsiders, but there are some flip sides to all coins and so there are to US and India. And you get frustrated by both of them time to time. My original post was one of such outbursts and I didn't know it'd sting people at all the wrong places. I hope this settles it.

Peace.

LOL I thought short posts are easy to read and understand. Kindly dont take things personally unless you are the one who approved that ' Reservation act '.

WE WERE TALKING ABOUT RESERVATION.gringrin WHO said all PG seats are donation based?shaking head

In that something called All India and State entrance exams , every Indian knows how many seats are merit based.

For the patriots who havent heard from Bharat mata recently , there is something new called COMED K.

I also know how difficult it is to get in because I went through that route..yes sir merit only!nod

No stings or ouches, we are in US by choice.sticking out tongue

Pepcid peace.

Well probably it's one of those psychological thingies to psych out the opponent. Dunno how but I guess when you're really low it'll do wonders to kick you where it hurts.

As per faryam and vras debater going on, One thing I'd like to point out, talking bout 50 % reservations and stuff. The recent protests that went on was because they were increasing the obs quota from 27 % to 50 % and that was just the obs. There are many other categories like vj, nt etc etc so the total reservation would have gone to almost 70 - 80 % of the seats.

Secondly it doesn't hurt as much in Under graduate level coz there are generally 100 seats for it and reservation still gives you 50 seats for open. In Post graduate level there are generally 10 seats in a big colleges and less in other's so 70 % reservation for PG means one or if you're lucky maybe 2 seats for the open category.so you do the math.

And vras if you aint aware that there are stuff going on to manupulate ranks in all india cet and state cet's ( which have been reported and i'm not just making it up) then you are probably not aware of what is happening around you.
