In terms of being a doctor EVERYWHERE else in the world except US and Europe, you are absolutely right. FP is the only "real" doctor in 90% of the world. It covers all aspects of medicine demographically, as well as in terms of patient age, etc. Put it this way. If you go to Pakistan/India, and someone presents you as a doctor.....and you tell your audience that you work in pathology or nuclear medicine, this is the face you're gonna get ----------> If you get a question about someone's 2 year old who has a fever and has been pooping green tinded stools all night, and they want to know what to do next....and you reply......." um, Im an internist. I dont deal with kids." You're gonna get.......... BTW, I said that once to one of my cousins (regarding his kid)...........and my grandmother was there and she told him not to ask my advice cause I was "a doctor for donkeys." And thats why I am DEAD seriosu when I say I want to go into FP, although Ive applied to some IM programs.
