plastic_surgery wrote: You should write to PD and pleasantly remind him that you have applied as he suggested, you are really interested in their program, and you are waiting for interview invitation. It would be like one of your references calling up PD, here you are your own reference as you already have a kind of access to this PD. When the application load is this big (in 1000s), PD would not be involved in choosing the applicants for interview, especially the FMGs. You said the PD will not be involved in choosing the FMG? Then who chooses ?

yeah, every program will be different but when a program gets large no. of application, program coordinator would screen applications based on criteria set by PD or a group of resident selection committee members. PD or other departmental faculties will still choose applicants for interview based on personal references/ contacts. That is why I would strongly recommend you to write to PD.

Thank you guys from your reply. I did write to the PD somewhere in Sep end but haven't heard yet. I am really worried and I dont know wht else can I do? Do you think there is a possibility that I am no longer considered ?

if u wrote already, i would suggest don't write again....for understandable reasons, we are discouraged from correpondence regarding our application, and a repetetive correspondence may simply worsen it..The PD could simply answer you " Yes, you were an excellent canditate last year, this year we have better canditates" Let bygones be bygones and hope for the best

dont know whether its 100% accurate...but at some places..residents (chiefs, seniors) do the job of reviewing...if from same school..good chance,...if school unknown to them...good luck to you...
