the first thing i did was to read the kaplan notes for CS. don't read the cases bc that'a cheating!!! then i made a quick outline of the physical exam and broke that down into the different topics ie neuro, peds, ob... then i made a basic medical history outline pam hugs foss licor aaa once i had those memorized, i got my study partner and started to go through the USMLE world cases. we did them all. we also timed ourselves in every case we did. at first, we would run out of time so we'd add on five or ten extra minutes. as we advanced, this extra time we no longer needed. after every case, we would correct each other and check over all the missed questions and what have you. we did not practice notes until the end bc of time issues. while practicing the cases together, we would take notes and practice writing the pn at home. the first aid has some good note examples but they are few. remember, no one expects a perfect note from you in 10 mins but it does have to be complete and focused on what the pacient has. ie if the person comes in with abdominal pain, there is no need for a neuro exam. after finishing the uw, i did the cases from the first aid. since my study parnter didn't want to do them, i practiced with my dog. yes, a 5 lbs yorkie!!! i corrected myself and that was it. both the uw and the first aid cover the same type of case. i would recommend you use both and the very least the uw. a few days before the test, my study partner and i went over the more common things like back pain, really the things you see in the clinic normally and more frequently. hope this helps and good luck to all.
