Dear Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in the Internal Medicine Residency Training Program at Good Samaritan Hospital of Maryland. I am disappointed to report that we are unable to offer you an interview for either the categorical or preliminary programs. This has been the most competitive year that I have experienced in my 20 years of reviewing applications. We have received over 3500 applications for a total of 16 positions. The Intern Selection Committee was charged with the challenging task of carefully reviewing all the applications. Though we found most applications to be worthy and well-qualified, we are unable to offer invitations for interview to everyone whom we wished we could meet. We are certain that you will be successful in reaching your career goals and obtaining a residency training position of your choice.
We thank you again for your consideration of our program.
Sincerely yours,
R. Dobbin Chow, M.D., FACP
Program Director

ok, a ray-of-hope thought: could this be because everyone is applying to much higher numbers of programs than ever before, at greater expense of course, but who gives a care about that.....

i think everyone's so anxious about not matching, that they're overapplying, the programs are swamped, and release such emails with inflated stats, and everyone starts panicking, and they apply some more............shaking head you get the drift?

Hey I received those kind of rejections too.. Just wondering, bbb said that she hit that kind of number in novemer. So if there are so many applications each year why is it that Im and FM sopts are vacant each year ????

Dear Applicant:
Thank you for applying to the Internal Medicine residency training program(s) at Staten Island University Hospital. Although your application was notable, unfortunately we are unable to offer you an interview at this time. Our program has received almost 3,000 applications for residency training, making the selection process for interviews very competitive. Regrettably, we are unable to grant each candidate an interview. Please be assured that we give each application very serious consideration.
I want to wish you all the success in your career endeavors.
Sincerely yours,

Due to overwhelming response for our 2 positions in IM, we have decided to use special filters as suggested by doc.wink

I got this reply from rochester general

I cannot inform individual applicants about their status, as we have over 3500 applications and I would do little else. Philosophically I am opposed as well...

I wish you good luck, and promise we continue to review these applications on a rolling basis.

Why dont they just make some restrictions on how many programs you can apply to and how many applications a program can recieve per position? cuz this is really ridiculous ... its more like a trend ... may be they want it this way to make more money out of these useless applications ... confused

yeap even i have begun to think maybe this is turning into a money making business or something. but then again we are the ones who are desperate here, we will go to any extent to get matched, cant blame them entirely...

Because limited the number of applications you can send is illegal.

Is it getting more competitive? My friend was match last year with high grades in OB. She said "there's a great increase in number of applicants last year as well a this year because UK is not accepting anymore Foreign doctors"? Is this true? I think it would ccontinue to do so.....unless they also stop accepting IMG. But i think it wont happen......because more applicants mean more $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!! hahacool

oh ya...wait next year will break all kinds of records

I am philosophically opposed to PC's not giving me an update on my application status; we spent $25 and a boatload of effort to send an application to their program; all they have to do is say yay or nay. If you've received 3500 applications, then 3500x25 = 87500$; that's more than enough to hire 2 secretaries to answer phone calls relating to status requests (even 1 will do the job; its only for 4-5mths).

It is all about money, not about someone's freedom. Why should they limit the number of applications and prevent themselves from making more money off of you? Just not within the economical teachings of a capitalist system.

I also agree that we do deserve a response from the programs we apply. It is only fair.
