Exam taken-29 sep,score-24 oct-249/99 Exam-majority-medicine,then gynaec. Then psychiatry, pediatrics, surgery, ethics.Very few biostats. After giving exam-felt it was hard and was not sure of getting good marks Exam preparation time-5 months-started by solving USMLECD then reading Kaplan Medicine notes first, felt that my speed was slow, so decided to give Kaplan online Q bank in June-got-63%.Took down jottings in a notebook after every test-even for answers which i got right-because they describe some other condition in answers which we dont know much about. Then again went on to complete my Kaplan reading. Read all subjects twice. Then read pediatrics and psychiatry blueprints-stressing topics i dint know. Also made a few google search readings for some conditions which i knew less throughout 4 months. Then took UW QBANK in last month-finished the bank in 18 days-3per day. Wrote down important points in notebook. Got a score of 68%.Read the notebook in 2 days, then read kaplan Q Bank notebook . Also read FA and Crush rapidly- After reading Kaplan and giving UW, U can finish reading Crush and FA browsing with ease. Then read step-1 jottings few days before exam, gave USMLE CD exam-39,40,41-few days before exam. Then read the UW jottings again-last 2 days of exam. Browsed colour atlas, radiology images and ECG'S- from Harrisons. I gave UW and Kaplan Q banks untimed ( Please do timed- i dint get time to mark last question in 2 blocks, they looked easy but till i finished reading them, the screen closed).I have a kid, cudnt do timed, he always wanted to sit on my lap and figited with computer. But did 4-5 blocks timed -at night or when husband took him to the park.My husband showed a lot of patience and helped me take care of kid.Wouldnt be possible without him. Also solved Kaplan Q book subjectwise i.e at the end of finishing reading that subject from kaplan.Solved the MCQ's at end of pediatrics and psychiatry blueprints. By Gods grace ,husbands help and my cute little kid's and my parents prayers I passed and got good marks.May God bless u all and help u in exam

It's amazing that you can do MCQs with your kid on you lap! Excellent! just curious, when did you graduate? and how many time do you have everyday for your study? I want to see how long should I prepare for step2! Thanks in advance!

I graduated in Feb 2000 - including internship. Then I did a residency for 3 yrs in my home country.Studied 3-4 hours in afternoon when kid slept(im a housewife presently) and 3-4 hrs in evening-night for most days.Initially the speed of reading was slow ,then later on increased.Hope that helps.

Thanks kermina. I think that the exam checks ur basics. When I got out of exam ,I thought that all questions were different than the Q banks we solve, and so thought that may be my preparation was less so I found the questions hard. But after result I concluded that after u study and solve all the standard material that forum mentions(or what i wrote in the thread), then it prepares u for many questions subconsciously. I mean that -u think u wrote wrong answer ,but turns out that u were thinking on the correct lines while typing that answer, only ur not confident about it.This was my experience Ya ,could do it with a kid, only and only because of my husbands support. He took care of kid during that time, so much so that my son used to prefer his dad rather than me.My husband managed his office and in evenings and weekends took care of kid.I just can't imagine me even passing without his support.

Well in your case we should congratulate your husband as well I suppose, since he has taken all that effort looking after the kid, while you did your studying. Both of your efforts paid off!. I am very happy for you! Wish you all the best in life!!

Congratulation anp on wonderful score. Thanks a lot for your experience !!!! Help me with 2 questions: 1-Please show me whether 2100 MCQs in Usmle Wolrd is enough for high scorers? or need to add another 2100 MCQs ( I think this way takes much time). 2- the Washington Manual of Medical Therapeutics is another plus for Step2 CK. Thanks anp in advance. I beleive you can get relief in the Match spots.

Vietnamese, Farah84 and Falcon-Thanks, and wish u best lucks too. Vietnamese- I did the 2100 Q's of usmle world and I think they are enough, I had also solved Kaplan Q bank, and Kaplan Q book. Had made small notebooks for all Q banks- writing down things i dint know or things i thought i would forget.I just read somethings like frostbite and heat related injuries from Washington manual, dint use it much. Falcon-I dint listen to any DVD'S.So i think im not the right person to comment on it.
