Hi BBB, Do you see alot of female candidates wearing collarless shirts? Sales women at dillards and nordstrom are saying dont bother with collar, wear a nice matching top but i think it will look unprofessional. What say you!

Hello everyone, I am giving what I am doing my prep for the Inv regarding some excellent Qs put forward by sarika to me. I am sure many of us are looking for the same answers and it would be good to get everyones views on it here. I dont intend to mislead anyone and gave my honest input. I was very closed and against the idea of collarless shirts myself but once I tried it on and saw so mant catalogues and on TV the same thing I bought it for myself. So I know everyone has different opinion and choices but I merely gave my input and my preparation. sarika wrote: Hi arizona wave, I started shopping today and realized i should have done that atleast two weeks ago. Can you plz answer a few questions. 1. I am buying a suit with 3 buttons, what kind of shirt or top goes underneath it. Does it have to be a collared shirt, what kind of material silk, cotton? what colors would be fine. Actually i was looking for three piece suits that come with a top underneath but did not like any of it because it was printed tops which looked odd. 2.If the shirt has collar, does it have to go over the coat or can it be in? 3.When you sit down is it absolutely necessary to open up the buttons. I am really having a hard time deciding what to wear. 4.Do you have to tuck in the shirt or can it be left out. 5.What kind of outerwear should i buy as i'm sure it will be way more cold in Newyork in the coming weeks compared to ........ 6.I want to wear two inches of block heels, do we really have to walk alot in which case i will try to fidn something flat. I am sorry for such a long list of questions but i am lost! Takecare Sent: Oct 21, 07 - 18:12 Hey sarika, No problem at all....I was myself out shopping on Sat for suits. have been looking for almost 1 mth now and found what to wear and how..so here is my input 1. U can wear suits with pants or skirts whatever you prefer. Personally I have bought pants coz its easier to manage and there is so much more to consider with skirts, sitting very cautiously, stockings etc etc..I could not take that stress. 2. I was buying shirts initially but sales lady at Dillards and Nordstrom guided me that we can wear sleeveless round or square neck tops with colours which you prefer and goes with the suit. coz I was having a hard time managing collars of shirts inside. You can buy any material if shirt..I found that silk shirts were very hard to manage...the collar keeps falling..so if going for shirt choose something else and colours preferably instead of black suit and white shirt. 3. So I have finally bought round neck tops and square neck tops to wear under suits and they look great. 4. Shirt collar can stay in ot out whatever looks good depending on how managable is the material. 5. Shirt is to be tucked in and button of suit should be open when sitting. 6. For NY I think I am going to buy a nice black outercoat which is warm and looks good. Coz once u arer inside the building is going to be warm and anything you wear u have to still wear an outer coat in NY. Inside the suit I think I will wear a warm turtle neck sweater...keep some additional tops if the day is not so cold. 7. shoes should be comfortable and professional looking...I am more of comfort person and I am still lookng for right shoes as I dont like to wear heels when I know I have to walk a lot Hope I answered few of ur Q's....Take care

This dressing up bit sure seems to be on a lot of people's minds. Medical school and USMLE has sucked out any leftover style and fashion sense in me.

yea sure http://www2.oprah.com/beauty/fashion/slide/200710... this is the link. i would looove to wear these dresses but for the kinds of interview we are appearing for, m not so sure
my personal strategy will be to buy a good basic black pantsuit (anntaylor would be good place to shop) and then try wearing different things with it, like cashmere light colored sweaters, round or square necked tops, shirts, just try to pair up with whatever u have got first and then go from there depending upon what looks good and what u feel comfortable and really confident in. and dont forget the accesories, very light jewellery that accentuates ur dress. just my two cents!

Go for it. It will look fine with a suit.

No dresses, please. And don't do black, a dark grey would be better, or brown, or dark burgandy or aubergine would even be okay. Black looks so stark.

bbb, i am guessing you find turtleneck sweaters also too stiff? cant imagine what you would say if you saw someone wearing the two together (black suit AND turtleneck sweater)... !

Hi BBB and every one, I am having my first IV on Wednesday and am wearing a pant suit... I know that stockings are essential for skirt suits.. But do we need to wear stockings with trouser suits too??.. Also I have long hair.. it reaches below my waist.. Last year I cut my almost half, still pony tail doesn't look too professional.. Can anyone suggest any styles for really long hair?..
