Why is Morphine KI in adrenal and thyroid deficiencies?
I know the fact it exaggerates the responses. But why and how ?

Anyone?

Normally, TSH binds to receptors on the gland which are Gs coupled---Increase cAMP.

But Morphine (an opioid) is Gi coupled and decreases cAMP, so the response to TSH is decreased. Now this would exaggerate the response if the patient is already deficient in thyroid hormone.

This is very similar to the hypothyroidism side effect produced with Lithium treatment.

I guess it is similar for adrenal hormone deficiency as epinephrine is Gs coupled, while the opioids are Gi coupled. Does it sound right??
