Program Name: St Elizabeth Health Center/NEOCOM

Date of Interview: November 2007

Where did u stay, nearest hotel, travel etc: Super 8 motel on Belmont avenue..paid approx 53/night..decent enough place for the price..indian manager..travelled by greyhound..got a 7 day advance purchase price of 70(round trip)..greyhound can be scary but just keep a low profile n stay INSIDE the station most of the time n u will be fine..

Level of "stress" (0-10): 3-4

How many interviewers: 3

How many applicants: 2

Tour included visits to: the usual charade..cafeteria,floors,CCU/ICU etc..

Questions asked: MEDICAL QUESTIONS!!!DKA,ACS,CRF,DM2..

Happy residents: yes / no / ? : yes

Atmosphere: clean..well maintained..everybody gets along with each other..no night float system so lotsa work for interns..

City, how is living there?: city appears run-down..used to be a still-mill town..economy was good..then the mill shut down n the town started goin down..so now except for the hospital n the doctors in Private practice, the local population has started moving to colombus..

Research oriented: yes / no / ? sort of..they wlll help u in ur research but there is no dedicated research elective..

Prematch offers?: No..ideal candidate for them as told by the PD was 95 on steps, publications & should know the classification of anti-arrythmic drugs!!..

Visa sponsored?: J1 only

What I liked the most?: the faculty was nice..residents appeared to be chilled out..

What should be improved?: i really have no idea..i guess one cant learn from a single day..n obviously the residents will not tell u..

Rate experience (0-10): 8 ( if i ignore the chief resident, 6 if i dont..)

Conclusion: would like to go there..i honestly believe that residency is all about what YOU can get out of it..if this is where i have to work for 3 years to get what iw ant..i dont mind..

Program Name: Akron General Medical Center

Date of Interview:November

Where did u stay, nearest hotel, travel etc: Radisson, the program pays for it

Level of "stress" (0-10):2

How many interviewers: 3, one with PD and the other 2 with residents.

How many applicants: 4(1 prelim) The three categorical candidates were IMGs and the prelim was AMG. For categorical medicine its a 100% IMG program.

Tour included visits to: ICU, floor, ER, lounge..

Questions asked: Why this program, abt CV, no medical qs.
Happy residents: yes / no / ? : I think so

Atmosphere: Relaxed atmosphere

City, how is living there?: Its a very small but beautiful city.

Research oriented: yes / no / ? They have protected time for research.

Prematch offers?: I was told that they offer late in the season

Visa sponsored?: H1/ J1

What I liked the most?: PD is a nice person

What should be improved?: Not many people are able to make into fellowships

Rate experience (0-10): 7

Conclusion: Its a good community program if u want to go into primary care. If u want to get into a fellowship u will have to work very hard and have lots of luck. The city is really small but is safe compared to most cities in Ohio.

Canton Medical Center.

Very nice program. Like upper 90 both steps+plus step3+research

  #5

Program Name: Huron Hospital

Level of "stress" (0-10): 3-4

How many interviewers: 3

How many applicants: 8

Tour included visits to: no where outside the main hospital

Questions asked: what did you do since graduation? What are you interested in doing after residency? Are you interested in research? What can we do to convince you to stay?...just a conversational comment and not a prematch offer!

Happy residents: yes / no / ? : dont think so

Atmosphere: low standard

City, how is living there?: not the best area...better about 3miles from it.

Research oriented: yes / no / ? not at all

Prematch offers?: not sure

Visa sponsored?:h1/j1

What I liked the most?: cant say that i did much.....but since its a community hospital they definitely have their share of diverse patient population.

What should be improved?: lots...mainly the attitude of its people

Rate experience (0-10): 5 (cant compare with other interviews)

Conclusion: Had heard many bad reviews about this program...about its poor teaching, lack of attention to resident's needs, poor fellowship opportunities/research, no night float, disorganized prog....which is what is what i found out from my experience.
