Program Name: U of Al Montgomery

Date of Interview: dec, 2007

Where did u stay, nearest hotel, travel etc: country inn & suites

Level of "stress" (0-10): 4

How many interviewers: 2

How many applicants: 10

Tour included visits to: ER, MICU, Wards, cafeteria, everywhere.

Questions asked: What can you offer to this program? What are your qualities, Why Montgomery? Why shall we take you? Questions about USCE, and research experience. Do you have any questons from me?

Happy residents: yes / no / ? : yes, definitely

Atmosphere: very comfortable and friendly

City, how is living there?: small town, nothing much to do. immediate surrounding area of hospital isnt very safe but most of the residents stay 5 -10 miles away. cheap place to stay. residents seem quite happy.

Research oriented: yes / no / ? they let you take research elective if you have a good project to do, research is encouraged but not quite mandatory, or essential.

Prematch offers?: they sometimes offer, but I wasnt offered.

Visa sponsored?: H1 and J1

What I liked the most?: the PD and faculties were nice , residents were quite cool, they said it has no scutwork. and relatively easy hours and relaxed atmosphere.

What should be improved?: not sure

Rate experience (0-10): 7

Conclusion: nice place, but Board pass rate in last 5 yrs is 85%,30% fellowships placement only, I had applied for prelim year and was slightly disapointed to learn that mostly AMGs were doing prelim there and no prematches were offered for prelim. small town, mainly indian residents, so I am happy cos I am an indian too. And Pd seemed to be in a hurry while interviewing but when i spoke to another AMG applicant he said he also sensed the hurry in PDs tone too, I guess he was tired by the end of the day. anyways on the whole a decent prgram. I dont mind doing a prelim there.

Level of "stress" (0-10): 1

How many interviewers: 2

How many applicants: 20? Including med-peds (2 IMGs)
