Dear bbb, I am sincerely thankful for your time spent on this post. I have questions regarding the interviews. I know programs send out interview invitations to many applicants but only 10% of those actually get matched. I am wondering if the program director or coordinator has set up some sort of high preferences for some exceptional candidates while at the same time do not expect anything for 'middle-class' preferences. For example, there are two candidates being interviewed. Candidate A (hypothetical scenario) has triple 99, 2007 grad, 2 years USCE, many publications, while candidate B only has 90/90, old img, no usce, no publications. Even though both candidates present well and interact nicely with everyone during the interview. Is it a fair assumption to say that canadidate B is there just for formality b/c he or she woudn't be ranked at all? Contrary to candidate A, unless he or she totally screws up the interview, candidate A definitely will be ranked very high on the list? Thank you so much for your time

Interesting question...I would love to see the answer...I've also asked myself if when going to IV every candidate has the same amount of opportunity to be ranked or if even before going to IV programs have their favorites and the others are buckups to have in case the favorites screw up or choose to go somewhere else....nice question

We don't have favorites prior to an interview - only after. With 3000 applicants, and 300 interviews for XX number of spots, it's hard to answer this. Just because we love an applicant, doesn't mean that the applicant will like us. The ball is actually in the applicants court.

as someone said, if you are invited for the interview, you already have a chance. there is no program that invites applicants for the heck of it. if you are invited you are considered a strong candidate, so basically it's in our hands to make it through

bbb, Thank you for your answers. I am trubling you again with another question. Suppose the program has 300 interviews, and there are only 30 spots, how many does the program actually rank ? 100%? Knee down for your answers.

Yeah guys give yourself credit. from all the applicants if you are chosen for an interview I think that should boost your confidence and you should go all for it. Why reduce your chanves by betting over it. You are there. Conquer!! No?
