Kaplan Qbank USMLE

hello ,

i got my report 2 days back and its 238/99. i was not expecting it.so i was in celebration.

EVERY EXPERIENCE HAS SOMETHING TO LEARN FROM IT .it may help anyone of you in any aspect; so here goes mine,

about me:an average img
prep time:on and off 6 mon.
sources used:kaplan materials and GOLIJAN(it really helped me a lot)
mcq sources:usmle world and kaplan q bank

first read:it took 6-7 weeks i think .i didnt retain much from that.
then i started u w with 2nd read
second read:about my 2nd read i have something to tell.i was scoring around 60%what i did is just read the correct ans in the qs i got wrong and didnt care about explanations.i didnot use the qbank in a good manner.i did qs 10 -15 whenever i feel bored.
and have gone through the books just as i was preparing for a simple test.it hardly took 20 days for me.
after that i was doing only u w.i was above 60%.so i didnt care much about revision.

then after few days my score dropped to low 50s its because I HAD STOPPED READING.i was doing only q bank.

third read:i could give the test only because of this read only.when i got score in 50s i again started reading; this time seriously.it took 6 weeks in total.
this time i read subject wise 5-7 days depending on my difficulty level.
and my work in aday was-
(a) one golijan audio lecture, reading it in golijan 500 pages notes, revising yesterdays lecture notes(hardly took 10 min but helped in a great deal to retain material),preparing for tomorrows lecture.

(b)i studied that subj which i planned for that day.if i was uncertain about the topic i watched dvds.

(c)a block in the morning from kap q bank in the morning and a block from either u w or kap qbook (this time with explanations) in the nights

(d)reading my notes before going to bed which i prepared from q banks, lectures
i heard lectures while having dinner, cooking, and what not all; i ve tried pasting charts in my kitchen, practised diagrams,ve drawn flow charts and
this prep gained me tons of confidence

last 20 days:.then one fine morning i took kap simulated i scored 72% but i was not happy.
.i tried FA for revising but i could not do it.so agian i shifted to kaplan lecture notes. then i took nbme form 1 it was 540. and again form 3 it ended in 550.i rationalized myself that all could not score a 99.so i was waiting for a 90+.but it turned out to be a 99.

my sincere thanks to all members of the forum,my loving husband(without his support i could not get this)and all my friends

and goodluck for everyone

i esp like your plan outline for 2nd and 3rd reads. i'm currently doing something similar, a block first thing in the morning, and another block before dinner. hope it pays off too!!

have a good time!
