Program Name: Jersey Shore Date of Interview: 11/08 Where did u stay, nearest hotel, travel etc: Dyas inn. Good place to stay only a mile away. I had rental car. Level of "stress" (0-10): 3/10 How many interviewers: 1- only at jersey shore. Total 3 iv including one group iv. one with assistant pd and one with cardio cheif How many applicants: 8, all IMGs, mainly from India, one ross graduate. one from ghana Tour included visits to: hospital ICU, CCU, ER, Wards, Library Questions asked: mine was skewed due to my extensive research experience, phd and other stuff. so it was mainly discussion about if I can fit in the program. Also was asked why I did not go to university program. I told them honestly that due to my graduation year, many would not touch my application. And I still have to do step 2 ck. happy residents: yes / no / ? : yes research oriented: yes / no / ? no, trying to emphasize now prematch offers? yes. I was told I may but it is too early. Also there was issue with 4 wks of psych rotation. And my step 2 score should be higher then 85 for PD to feel comfortable. visa sponsored? yes, but i dont need it. City: not too great. really disappointed there. I live in DC. USed to things being nice and urban. But it is three years. My wife may have issues down the road but for now she is supportive. What I liked the most: enthusiasm, no scut work, clinical experience, cardio and infection disease emphasis, PDs dedication- has been there for 25 yrs. What I did not like: city, little research Rate experience (0-10): 7.5/10, only if it was near big city, it would get 8.5 Conclusion: will go for it. beggers dont have choice. I dont want to waste another year, trying to have all credentials and landing university based interviews. so if they offer prematch and I havent had another interview call, I will take it.

Program Name: Monmouth Long Branch Nj Date of Interview: Nov 2007 Where did u stay, nearest hotel, travel etc: Travelled from new york, Took NJ transit from Ny penn station to long branch station which is right across the street from the hsopital. Just check the timings b/c the nj transit runs every hour. Level of "stress" (0-10): 2 How many interviewers: 1 How many applicants: 13-14 Tour included visits to: icu, wards, floors, cafeteria call room. Questions asked: Depends who interviews you, The chairman doesnt ask any medical questions, all other faculties ask med questions but just the basic ones. happy residents: yes / no / ? : Yes very happy and satisfied research oriented: yes / no / ? not really. prematch offers? yes. Will ask everyone to email the PC if you are interested in a premac. That doesnt mean you will get one, they give prematches to people who they find suitable. visa sponsored? not sure, I think they accpet J1 but they doesnt ahve to do anything with vias i guess. City: Long branch is beautiful. You can actually se the beach rigth from the conference room. Right when i stepped out of the NJ transit, i felt great and peaceful. You can find housing nearby areas within raesonable price. What I liked the most: The family environment which is devoid of any stress. What I did not like: No fellowships although they migth have a geriatrics coming up in the future. Rate experience (0-10):8 Conclusion: Well, if you just want to complete residency without any big ambitions and hassel this is the dream come true.

Program Name: Mountainside, NJ Date of Interview: NOV 2007 Where did u stay, nearest hotel, travel etc: Took the NJTRANSIT from ny penn station to bay street station in montclair, nj. The line to use is montclair line. Level of "stress" (0-10): 3 How many interviewers: 2 (PD and faculty) How many applicants: 3 Tour included visits to: floors, cafeteria etc Questions asked: No medical questions, moe behavioral questions like yours tength weaknesses, how do u handle stress, how do you take criticism etc etc happy residents: yes / no / ? : Yes. research oriented: yes / no / ? No. prematch offers? no visa sponsored? i dont think so. City: Montclar nj. A very affuential neighbourhood. Wall street people live here since its 35 min train ride from ny penn station What I liked the most: The stress free atmosphere. What I did not like: The stress free atmosphere (let me explain, i was a little bit concerned about the clinical experiene we will have here because i did not see work load there. Most patiens are private rich patients and have private doctors one might just be taking orders which can be good or bad. Rate experience (0-10):5 Conclusion: The Pd is a very nice lady, i dont now why people dont have a favorable impression of her. I found her very straight forward and frankly i like that in a person as long as it doesnt cross over to rudeness.

Program Name: UMDNJ Date of Interview: 12/05/07 Where did u stay, nearest hotel, travel etc: drove in from nyc Level of "stress" (0-10): 0 How many interviewers: 1 with a faculty member and a "30 sec with the PD" How many applicants: about 10 Tour included visits to: UMDNJ (main hospital) and Hackensack Hospital Questions asked: why this program, interesting case, future goals... happy residents: yes / no / ? : seemed happy research oriented: yes / no / ? they got a research track (PhD) as well as an MPH track. Also all of the "basic science" research is available through the university. prematch offers? not sure visa sponsored? not sure City: Newark is not the best city but apparently it is getting better. The hospital is in a pretty safe area though, its just that the area that surrounds it is terrible. Pretty close to NYC, i believe its like a 20 min drive and also accessible via train. What I liked the most: The PD is great. Research opportunities readily available. All fellowships available in house. What I did not like: area not so good. Rent is about the same as in nyc. Rate experience (0-10): 8 Conclusion: its a decent program with many fellowship opportunities. Most of the attendings come from within the program and choose to stay instead of going to practice elsewhere. University hospital is a pretty good looking hospital, lots of different patients and good path variety. You also rotate in the VA and Hackensack (a private hospital). No overnight call, except for ICU.

J1 City:Paterson. New Jersey What I liked the most: many fellowships, newly renovated hospital, staff and residents seemed to get along very well Cafetaria, food is free, variety++ What I did not like: sponsor only J1,Pd sounded a bit discouraging at the IV.did not have any presenatations about the program etc.was taken straight for the Iv on arrival and then for a tour.
