hi, i wz just wondering how to examine a pt with broken or dislocated joint say shoulder for example. inspection ,palpation and range of movement i think but pt will be in pain and do we chk movements passively or demonstrate to pt so that he can perform them actively...
i blv. we are not supposed to repeat painful meanuveres..but in this case do we go on checking one movement after the other...
help plz!!!

tell the pt that u will be as gentle as possible.
u have to do inspection, check sensations and pulses( must do)
try to do crossover test, drop arm test ,tone ,ask the pt to do overhead abduction ,check power..... in any of these tests if the pt feels pain dont do it and write in pt notes...cannot be checked cuz of pain.
the whole strategy should be as gentle as possible ...and listen to the pt
afterall he is the one who is going to score you.

i hope it helps u
