which do you think carries more importance when it comes to being matched/prematched?

do vote at the options above, and post your thoughts too.

it should make for an interesting discussion.

thanks!smiling face

i don't think one single thing carries more value...it's the entire package. both are equally important. if you don't have visa issues but not so great scores and no USCE--i don't think they'll be that much interested in you, or the other way around, and i know of some people in this situation who had amazing scores, had some USCE, but visa issues were there....they were also put on the back burner for a while.

there's no hard and fast rule--then there are incidences where people get lucky and find programs who are helpful and willing to cooperate with the candidate and accomodate them.

this is just from what i've observed and heard.

Btw what constitutes the visa problem? The fact that you need visa or that you are coming from a US unfriendly country and hence you have an extra obstacle in obtaining one simply because the US government dislike your country?

i meant finding a program that is willing to sponsor the visa that you want. i have seen some strict visa restrictions from numerous programs, and in their 'requirements attachment' that they send, they actually write GREEN CARD or PERMANENT RESIDENT in upper case letters. some will accept a visa sponsored by ECFMG, which is more time-comsuming and is responsible for interns missing their orientation course[and beyond in rare cases].

well if they stated that ofc green card is required for a successful match at their program. im not sure whether its off topic, but how long does it usually take to get a green card? any conditions?

i ain't no lawyer, but the duration is really variable with numerous criteria. starting with how long you've been staying in the US, on what visa you entered, etc. maybe even your country of origin, but am not sure of the last one. sometimes, who you marry makes a difference, too.

from those i know, it takes minimum 5 years, average 5-7 yrs [i know this from my cousins] of course if a citizen is your spouse, it's a lot quicker.
