Hi, DrS, I'm relatively new to this forum.I'm in a similar situation as well. I have my Step 1 and CK, took CS first wk of oct. 99/99/awaiting CS/no USCE/no US LOR/need J1/H1. I applied to 30 IM programs late sep(without CK), then 70 more after CK came out Oct 11.No IVs yet, 3 rejections. How early did u apply.I'm gettin very worried.

Wow Nadi, I'm really surprised you have no interviews with your double 99's. I applied to about 70 programs as well in early september. I did have both Step 1 and CK scores by then. I am quite sure you will get interviews but probably later on since you have applied fairly recently. I am sure a lot of programs are gonna find it difficult to bypass a double 99! Good luck.

Hi, I am in same boat as you guys. I passed my Step 1 and Step 2CS. I am taking CK at the end of October. I am usa-canadian dual citizen. Did my 3rd and 4th year of medical school in usa. My year of graduation is 2005. I am going to apply for IM and Psych. I am not sure about pathology, but was thinking about it...because was guaranteed an interview. I know its kinda late appyling now ...BUT gonna apply if anything try for Scramble.

Well, i used matcharesident.com, a friend registered and gave me his password.I started by applying to all programs i know at least someone in, then most IMG friendly programs in NYC, New Jersey, Chicago, Penny and Ohio.Applied to some university programs just for the sake of it.All in all, i targeted mostly H1 programs, a few J1.

How accurate is the list made by matcharesident? even i was suggested by a friend about it but i couldnt vouch for its authenticity. But if it really does a good job, then its worth for it ... it saves all that stupid callings and mails !

Hi, same question of anastomosis, Is matcharesident list a good one, or there are betters? with so much information and with few money we can not apply to every program without research....

I suggest doing your own research... As they say: If you want a job done right, better to do it yourself. Sometimes these sites are outdated or contain some wrong or inaccurate info. First narrow it down to a main geographical area. Then look for the IMG-friendly programs you know of. (these you can find from lists to get a gereral idea, but you're not done yet!). Next, look at their website and make a note of their criteria. IF this answers all your questions, apply. IF not, make a list of your questions and ask the program coordinator directly. Don't be afraid to pick up the phone and call! Talking is quicker and more direct than email. Ask specific questions that pertain to your situation, which are not found on the website -don't ask them general questions which you can find on FREIDA or their site or else they will get annoyed.

Hey everyone what about NEW programs? I have heard they are more lenient with their criteria...anyone know of any?

Hi Everyone! I live in CA, my last test taken was CK(85). I am not ECFMG certified yet because I had to go all the way to my school in Mexico to ask for the documents that ECFMG needed. Once ECFMG had them they had to be translated.. anyway to make the long story short. I am not ECFMG certified and don't have the PTAL (cali letter yet.. also a problem with my school). I applied to 80 programs, 12 anesthesia, 68 IM and so far just got 1 IV in Mass. My question to you is the following: - Do ou think is a good idea to write a letter to the PD (with cc to the program coordinator) and "remind" them that you are still very much interested in their program and explain that you will be ECFMG certified soon? Suggestions? THANK YOU!

It won't kill you, but it will not have the desired effect as well... They know about your excitement, so reminding them is not necessary...

Thanks Faraym!!! Drawen, I seriously think u can go ahead & make some tentative calls and see how it goes.A friend in an Ohio program tried to get me an interview thru his PD & was told by the PD that i did not ve my ECFMG certf yet.The PD suggested that i should confirm when i expect to get my ECFMG certf. It has therefore dawned on mr that if i had the certf now, i wld obviously have more IVs.I may may some calls myself within the week.

I am in the same situation as Nadi. 95/99 put in my application before I was certified..Got my CS on Oct 12..all 1st attempt....No IVs..applied to H1 mostly..Problem may be due to grad date. But maybe it was not a good idea to apply without certification..The ERAS may have updated my status..but who knows the Pragrams may not have downloaded the info..or may have had taken decisions earlier and are not willing to review now??????
