Please tell me your honest opinions.

What are my chances of getting an interview without having an ECFMG certification?
-IMG -carib. school/US citizen/Step 1 decent score/Step 2CK -failed, taking again soon/Step 2 CS -Pass/USCE/no research experience, some volunteer work/grad 2005.

applying mostly to FM and IM.

The problem is not that you are not ECFMG certified because I am neither and I have got some IV's...the problem is that you do not have your exams complete (you failed ck) when are u retaking it? and your second problem is your timing..you are a little late....I think that if you are really intested in trying this year go ahead and do try because there is nothing to lose (besides money offcourse) but do keep in mind these 2 issues. If you are not that interested in trying this year you might want to wait, study hard for ck to get a great score (90's) to try to make up for the previous failure and try to engorge your curriculum for next year....your aplication would be very complete for next year and your chances that you get lots more IV's are higher.... I think that is the wisest decision because otherwise you will be in the middle of match season trying to study for ck which you already had problems with and you might not get a great score that if you got would help a lot to you application if you wait for just one year. That is just my opinion but you know what your conditions are and I think you should make a wise and quick decision for your life. Good luck and take care.

Thanks... Is there anyone else in my situation- Yet to take CK and not yet ECFMG certified but still applying this year? Lets compare notes... PM me and we can compare the programs we applied to. I'm done applying so I won't apply to the same ones you applied to if I already didn't. smiling face But it would be useful to know which ones give rejections and interviews for applicants like us.

Thanks.
GOOD LUCK to everyone! (I'll be praying for us all)

passed step I, and CS, and I'm a citizen. Did my 3rd and 4th yr in the US. I filled out an application, have applied to zero programs. I'll send off a few applications just so I can qualify for the scramble. Or hope that someone doesn't get their visa approved at the last minute.

Or worst case scenario I get another year to enjoy life before I become a slave to the system grin

I applied with just step 1 initially, but I recently got my CS results. I applied to a limited number of programs for personal reasons and I only have 1 iv so far, no official rejections. A bit of a gamble on my part but let's see how it goes.

wow, I didn't know there were others like me out there!

Please post the places you get interviews, so I'll know my prayers are working! smiling face
Thanks.
DrVirgo
P.S. Lets stay positive!

Hey everyone,
I know this is a stressful time for us all because it decides our future, but lets please try to stay united through this process and help eachother instead of wishing badly upon someone else.

Naturally, when you get a position, you knocked out someone else for it, so its only logical to pray that you get it instead of them... However, I don't think doc meant any real harm by his comment...

Lets please try to stay positive and work together. You never know -when you help others, you are rewarded too.

Good to know DrVirgo. I am sure that person meant no evil. My cognitive function for English must have gone for a ride. I was trying to say the same thing. Be positive..for yourself...Dont spread the negativity.

Im glad we r both on the same side.

thanks faraym, though i would love a few more IVs!

i also applied with step 1(81) on sep 1st and now i got my cs result(passed), taking ck soon. only applied in 30 peads programs, got 2 rejections and no iv yet. i'm just taking a chance this yr not very hopefull. i have no visa issue but graduated 7 yrs back plus no usce these r my drawbacks. i find so many people like me in this forum, feels i'm not alone. i wish a good luck to everyone going for match this yr.

Ok, another question for you all:
Would it be a good idea to write the programs a quick e-mail explaining that you are interested in their program, etc etc... And assure them that your ECFMG certification is in the process of being obtained. (eg say I am just waiting for my Step 2 CS score, or I plan on taking CK ASAP, and will have the certification by the end of this year)

Basically I'm asking if this is a good idea as it adds a personal touch to your application and shows them that you REALLY are interested and working hard to obtain the cert. OR would it seem like just another annoying email that they have to deal with????

ALL opinions welcome.

going by the number of applications and inquiries these programs are recieving I am not sure its a good idea. I guess its just easier for them to screen and interview candidates who are already ECFMG certified cos it eliminates the "what if" scenario. U know the dont have to bother with "what if he doesent pass CS or CK?" Or "what if he doesent get ECFMG certified in time for the match deadline?

  #23

agree with DrS.
ps. i've got aleast 4 emails from the programs i applied saying that "plz do NOT call or send us email while we are still reviewing your appplications"....confused
