1997 grad here. 2 IVs, 2 rejects. Nobody talked about old grad in rejects, but I guess it is the reason and ofcourse lack of USCE. need some serious encouragement to hang in here

A lot of places have a cut off of 5 years. Some say 10 years. Some don't have any cut off.
What they are looking for is recent clinical experience (preferably in the US) so they know your knowledge is up to date.

1998,

I just found an externship in a private practice group ? It's so sad that I can't add it into my CAF in ERAS.
I emailed most of the program I am applying for. But, it doesn't change anything. I am " on hold" in a lot of program. I see "rejections" and "invitations" from those program I applied. But, I did not hear anything from them.

I am 1987 grad..Post Grad in Surgery in my native. No breaks in carreer.. ECFMG certified. Passed with above average USMLE scores..All first attempts and within one year. Applied only to places which specifically mentioned 'no post grad cut off'. No IV, 15 rejections...Am I wasting time in the US?

i am an old graduate too, 1989 and i applied to surgery. i have 1 iv and 1 rejection. i applied to 46 program. life is hard but we can continue to pray and hope. it is possible cos i have met old img's on this forum who matched; even those with poor scores.

so what is imporatant for the IV..It surely cant be only luck...

Maybe the PD takes 1000 appl out of the 3000 he recieves and makes his IV list from that 1000. Rest of the 2000 are dumped.

Cant blame the PD. His job is to fill up his positions.. Not to further my career or see to it that i am treated fairly.

Why step 3?

step 3 is big deal for many program, if resident cannot pass step3 it will be big headache for the program.many program wants to avoid that.

i HAVE USCE, all US LOR and US PhD, pass all steps within one year with score above 85, no attempt. Applied more than 100 programs, Only three interviews so far. I don't think anything can help onld graduate.

  #20

Not to scare anyone, but I just spoke to someone who interviewed yesterday and the program director told him he is a bit old to be applying to the program... He is ONLY 30!!!
sad
Now there is an age limit? That would be age-discrimination, right?
