Thiamine def. is detected clinically in Wenicke=there is Ataxia Ophthalmoplegia and nystagmus Korsakoff=there is Confabulations Wet BeriBeri=in which the heart shows massive cardiomegaly(dont know why)

clinically thiamine deficiency may present as wet/ dry beri beri wet beri beri involves heart , where there will be high cardiac output failure, edema will be present CHF dry beri beri peripheral neuropathy, wernicke encephalopathy ataxia, nystagmus ophthalmoplegia korsakoff's psychosis confabulation and memory loss i remember only these, please add any other features jayesh

you all are correct Actually i should have written laboratory confirmation for thiamine def...and its transketolase enzyme measurement .

why dont we estimate alpha keto glutarate, Pyruvate dehydrogenase, Branched chain keto acid dehydrogenase. Eventhough RBC has no mitochondira, why did they estimate only Transketolase for Thiamine deficiency :!: :shock: :shock:

Maybe transketolase was the only answer choice in the question stem
