I did Internal Medicine in Monterrey, Mexico, does anybody know if this is positive for the programs directors?
I finished IM in 2006, does anybody know if i can be considered in those programs with year of graduation from medical school limits?
My step 1 score is 94 (225)

It definitely is a PLUS! .... nobody knows that answer....varies from program to program ....some are strict some not,
some want you to be certified though....when will you get your certificate?

Hi! It varies from program to program. Some programs do not prefer trained grads coz they think dt u will already have formed ur way of doing things and teaching u new ways would be difficult. Some programs consider dt u will be more efficient since u r already trained, there r many programs in nyk dt prefer trained grads. But yes u would not be considered a fresh grad by most programs.

Hey paisano!!! how are u?? glad to see more paisanos!! come join us at our mexican forum so we can talk some more.... about your question everything that has been said is true I especially agree with prueba and decide, because from what I've seen being trained as an internist already is a plus and your spanish speaking skills are also a big plus in a lot of states (Texas, NY, NJ, Fl, etc) you don't mention scores from ck and cs? are you done with those...I guess if you didn't mention them you might not but you have a nice score in step 1 and you will get a much better score in ck I'm sure. But do consider that as rockingdoctor said some programs may consider u an old grad but I think the majority will recognize that yes we know you are an old grad but a grad that has remained active in medicine and most of all is already an internist in his home country if you get a great score in ck you will show what u got!!! and I am sure you will get a lot of IV's... deffinitely doable....my endocrinology teacher who was already an endocrinologist went to do IM and matched on his first try at Dallas... so no worries just do your best to get your best score possible!! good luck and keep in touch paisano!

alansiqueiros, I graduated in 2001, also did IM back home and finished in 2006, and I can tell you is true some programs will have a cut off, usually 5 yr, but when asked most of them will tell you that since you have "clinical continuity" they will consider you, the trick here is to contact them by e-mail preferably and ask how flexible their cutt off is given your case.
I also recomend to be certified as soon as possible.
Don't be discouraged, most will consider you, in my case for example, already have 24 IV (almost 30% of programs applied), some in very good programs, so you can do it too.
Good Luck
