Day 26/24
What exactly was I thinking. There is a lot to read and understand. the questions are much more challenging than I had thought. 3 weeks???? who am I kidding.
Getting started now with 20 peds questions. Updates through out the day.

dear medoc,
work hard these three weeks and itll pay off. you have much of the knowledge from step2ck.
honestly, i feel that whatever i read or whatsver questions i do anymore, the basics is what i knew from step2ck i am not sure if i'm learning something new, but one thing is certain, my scores are much lower than in step2ck prep, and i am asking myself why?!
anyway, i have january to go and thats it for me too. i made large-sized schedule and put it on my wall. i better stick to it or else i wont even finish half of what i wanted.
remember this is our Last usmle exam. we'll do well. whats your plan today?
i am giving myself a week to re-read ck notes. interestingly, i find a lot of things i didnt know or remember
reading my "fav" pediatrics today and tomorrow.

Alexae: May be a little tweaking in the though process might help. Think like a physician versus thinking like a med student. I hope that brings up your score.
I have done 20 peds questions in tutor mode. 45% Long way to go.
Now for some cardiology.

yoy're right this isnt an exam of how much knowledge we have but rather how we apply what we know or how good our intuition or instinct is when faced with certain clinical situations.
still struggling with pediatrics -honestly, i think the internal med part of the exam will be much more challanging and if we spend some decent time on pediatrics or surgery, that will gain us a few extra points on the exam.... i can't say the same abt phychi -that stuff is too weird as it is!

Hey alexae and medocuk...You guys are taking the exam at least a month before me..I can have the luxury of wasting time  but you guys should not....Hope your day goes well..Alexae..I am also going through pediatrics..I completely agree with you..Have to concentrate on pediatrics a bit more

hey medouck, need to accelerate... I dont wanna sound pushy, but speed up buddy. pick up crush to cover up vital points and remember Taking Exam is about covering high yield topics. INT med will take a lot of time, and OB GYN is asked a lot tooo, so try finishing up UW questions for peds. I'm not sure how r u finding swansons but again if you have 3 weeks only then first cover UW MCQs, CCS cases and any high yield book like crush or FA..

medoc, if thats alright with you ill start updating my progression in your journal as well.
so today and tomorrow still fighting off pediatrics. im rereading ck notes. i am also trying to take a few notes of the things i keep forgeting. once this is done, will cruise into crush again and read the peds chapter. will continue with another set of questions from nms-test#3.(monday). then monday afternoon, drive with a bunch of friends to nyc spend the night come back on the 1st and off to surgery... okay i better stop here as this is already confusing to me... lets do peds for now. and do it well! as it will gain me a bunch of extra points on the exam.

hi there.. yes nms for step3 its a book has 5 tests, 150 MCQs ea. They're easier than UW and not really in a usmle format but the explanations are really good- and this is the reason why i decided to do those Qs as well. also, you go thru them fast you may be able to finish the entire book in two days if you keep at it.
still havent done kaplan qbook.. any input there? is it worth it? (though i am sure the more questions the better)

AlexaE: I left Peds in between. It was takng too long.Moved to Surgery and trauma and medicine. Right now attacking Cardiology as that is my weak area. It is totally OK with me for you to jot down your progress. Will keep me motivated and on my toes as well. KQbook. I hear make for good practice. They are no where close to the real exam so I hear.
Sprint: Time flies off mate. And this isnt half as easy as one would hope. So do buck up.
PG: Hey thanks a ton for checking in on me. Really need to be pushed at this moment. Time is indeed running out. I am using Swanson for questions more than reading their theory. I feel most of it is being repeated. Kaplan lecture notes seem really crap when you combine FA and crush. Anyway I am trudging along.
Yunaaaaaaaaaaaaaa: Where have u been?? Would love to see you around.
Mytime: No I am doing subject wise.
Been doing UW questions in tutor mode. I am at a 45% level. Not good at all. Need to buck up.

UW update. Finally hit the 60's. I am happy. Going to read GI and Rheumatology and do questions and then report.

I had a no work filled NYE. and half of the 1st of jan was taken up by a late lunch. How ever I am not going to complain.
I am judt going to get ahead.
Did Cardio, Gastro from Crush. Could not find any musculoskeletal in crush.
Did 25 questions from GI: 64%.
Tomorrow I plan to read Obs and Gynae--crush.
Swanson do GI questions.
FA read musculoskeletal and start mini cases.
Do 100 UW questions.

Days left: 19
Today's plan. Complete reading Obs and Gynae: FA and Crush.
Read ambulartory medicine from FA and also do the first few sections of medicine from Crush. There a few pages dedicated to BP, Cholesterol management electrolyte disturbances etc. This knowledge will be useful all the time.
I am lagging behind in questions. Always a problem with me. So Today I shall attempt at doing 150 questions.
Doing Swanson questions is helping with doses etc. But it takes up too much time. Kaplan lecture notes have taken a back seat. I don't see they have given any thing that Crush and FA haven't covered.
I don't see any activity in any one esle's journal and hence I haven't come around to your's, I hope all of your are studying.
I have over 1500 visits to this page. Very unfortunate that no one is bothered to leave a word of encouragement.
AleaxaE: I hope u r studying. I have seen no updates.

i have finished pediatrics (finally). read ck notes (i actually read each page all over again because i have only read that book once for my ck exam and the nbme i took a week ago said im weak in pediatrics and newborn.. after i have finished it i read the pediatrics chapter from crush. i do not use fa - maybe because i didnt use first aid for step1 or ck before. i also have strong medicine but to my surprise it doesnt have a pediatrics chapter
today: surgery (all day). quick review of ck notes, then crush, then strong medicine.
today's questions: usmle CD block 3 (got 20/24) and block 4 (later).
i hope to finish ck notes this week and their corresponding chapters from crush- (expect IM-I'll put in 4 days for IM next week).
after i am done reviewing ck notes and crush, ill spend the rest of time doing questions: kaplan qbook and maybe step123.
questions completed to date: usmleworld 100%, nms - half (will resume it next week), took nbme, usmle cd- today.
cases: today was the first time i looked into that software that comes with the usmle cd, practice case 1 on the cd... i find it really fun ... i decided to supplement each day with a few cases and practice them with the software.
i know in many ways my plan sounds unrealistic, but i have this big schedule hanging on my wall and i better stick to it. i want to get this test over with and enjoy ..life!more so than i do now anyway.
okay guys and gals, have a great day today. i hope no one gets behind their schedule- i have a tendency to that...

Read Gynae. Will start Obs now. UW does not have separate questions for them.As they are intermingled and I dont have time to not be able to make educated guesses at UW I plan to complete reading Obs too before I attack the questions. This is definitely going to take me more time.

put surgery aside for now.. (i guess i'm way behind my schedule already - as it seems, tomorrow will still be a sugery day), because I have disovered that cases are interactive and way less boring then reading and reviewing same old same old... are you working on the cases Medoc? good luck on finishing ob/gyn- that's next on the list for me after surgery. i only hope i get enough time to do finish up all i wanted. well its a little past 7 will take a(nother) break now for dinner and shall continue right after with cases
