Ok thankyou all! now that ive calmed down, i would like to contribute back to this forum and share my EXAM JOURNEY EXPERIENCE. first off, i hate my dirtyplay name. dirtyplay is my code name for when i play online CHESS but i guess its too late to change now . I am an american who went to med schoool at age of 19 to POLAND. i graduated in 2003. i did not take any of the steps during med school bc of lack of time, poor resources etc along with immaturity. When i got back too US , i worked, desperatly wanting money bc i was tired of the poor student life. Despite my pretty good income i was not happy. I had a weight on my shoulders ,on my chest, i always thought about usmle and about practicing medicine. one day i was working in hospital and i remember all the young girls in residency walk in ,following the professor. i left work that day in tears, never came back and never looked back! My total prep time was 7-8 months. average 8 hours a day. one day off a week. seems long, but i had to learn how to concentrate and read again without falling asleep! 1.first 4 months i did KAPLAN BOOKS and videos. this was very good for beginning ur studies. 2. month 5: i did usmlerx and annotated in F.A .this was really good to help familiarize me with first aid .i just did questions ALL day 3. month 6: did kaplan Qbank again all day for a month 4. month 7: did usmleworld you got it ALL DAY, everyday 5.month 8 took exam! oh forgot to tell u ,i listened to gojan audio every morning for 2 hours ,the last month of prep. NBME FORM #1: 430 at month 6 usmle score: 213/88 EXAM DAY: i did first 2 blocks back to back. i got 5 fungus questions.one was a pic of ringworm and asked for tx ,but i dont remember seeing the azoles, ..antihistamine was a choice ,maybee that was it? first 2 blocks went well. i had alot of this neuromuscular junction receptor, and something about muscle firing and recruitment of impulse. just read everything about nm junction. i know i got these questions right bc i remember them from the beginning of my studies in KAPLAN BOOK. MICRO: barely any, i was soo surprised. i studied micro sooo well. i got one erlichiosis question .one salmonella typhi quest and spots on belly. just read mmrsimple book. its in there. i luv that book. neuroanatomyi did worst in BUT not bc it was hard .ireally just had poor review of it. get an atlas and study all pics of section of brain. i think this will save u for the neuroanatomy part. one pic just showed gross brain and asked wheres the sensory part, i got the precentraland postcentral gyrus mixed up and it cost me that point. There was a HOX question, if u see it u will know ,just choice HOX I had the famous j receptor question. i had lots of reproductive. My advice to those taking USMLE is just do QUESTIONS! keep doing them over and over. i had at least 30 that looked VERy familiar (thats all im going to say) . DO USMLEWORLD. someone else wrote...anyone who doesnt do usmleworld might as well shoot themselves in the foot! i agree. USMLEWORLD i dont care if i sound like a advertisment BUT this qbank SAVED ME! my exam looked exactly like it in format and sooo many questions looked all too familiar. I always did all my questions in TUTOR mode ALWAYS RANDOM always untimed. just keep repeating repeating. get those facts and concepts in ur head! dolike 300-400 a day for a month than read FA the last week ..than go release all that knowledge on test day! goodluck to ALL. hope to see u soon in STEP 2 FORUM!

Congratulation It is really impressive the way u struggled. Did u study kaplan or other books just one time or did u revise the books with ur Mcqs? How much FA is sufficient for which subjects, what is ur advice. GL

falcon, i read through Kaplan once . with videos all 7 subjects. no questions. i started doing kaplan qbook but it was from 2004 and i hated it! for me the day i started learning (how to pass usmle) was the day i started doing the online qbanks. i used F.A the first 2 months with the qbanks and in the beginning i practically had to look up every single question in my F.A . sure i guess if i really didnt understand something i would go back to kaplan and read that topic BUT since in the end i used usmleworld the explainations are great and i didnt have to break out the kaplan . i was doing 300-400 questions a day sooo i really did have time to read anything else.

Hi, dirtyplay28. Thanks very much for this elaborated study tips. One last question please, I am very slow in UW and hardly i could finish 50 q in whole day, as i spend lot of time on explainations. May be because I did not read all Kaplan books. Could u please give me a advice how to finish at least 100 q per day. what was ur method of doing 300-400 questions. i am very worried because my exam is next month and i am in the middle of UW and i also want to read FA and books. GL

falcon, i will tell u a big tip that someone i trusted passed on to me. They said " Dont listen to everyone else.... Just read the question and the correct answer and why its right! ONLY read the other choices if you really r confused. Soooo as much as i wanted to read alol the why's and explainations I just forced myself NOT TO! YOU have to Be productive and efficient. and as i got really good with the questions I would just read the bottom summary in usmleworld and MOVE ON. repeat, repeat, repeat my friend. goodluck. and my advice finish usmleworld before you walk into that exam. yes, I LOooooooveee usmleworld
