Univ. of South Dakota probably has the rudest, most unprofessional way of rejecting(kicking)you..their message title was
"Application No longer being considered"..
message ending was "please do not contact us requesting specific information about this decision"..
I would rather not work at places which cant even figure out how to deny a prospective resident..

Take it easy gingko- I think whats much ruder and more unprofessional is the silent majority who dont even bother to send you a one line mail
I think I would personally be much more relieved if the 60 odd programs I have applied to send me a single word-
Yes /No
that way I'll know by November if I can go on to do something else with my time and prepare for the next year/apply to other colleges rather than this stupid waiting
As far as the language goes- try to think of this as a test of your patience and a test to see how thick skinned you are- don't let it spoil the rest of your day- Like someone else said-a reject is a reject- doesnt matter if they say you are the most deserving candidate that they have ever rejected!

Perhaps.......perhaps my great, great, great grandparents snuck into the country from that awful (not) Canada after they escaped from being indentured servants......Or I lived in Minot, why not?
