Please help me how to differentiate Restrictive Cardiomyopathy and Constrictive pericarditis ?

  #2

Restrictive cardiomyopathy:
Dilated cardiomyopathy that does not contract ( thickened MYOCARDIUM)-cardiomegaly due to thickening all cardiac structures due to infiltration of myocarduim with( amiloidosis, hemochromat.,scleroderma, sarcoid, carcinoid..).
Decreased ventricular compliance & Systolic ventricular dysfunction.

Constrictive pericarditis:
thickened and calcified PERICARDIUM-filling is decreased because pericardium not elastic-RIGIT, due to the reaction of the pericardium to previous inflamation. The heart is normal in size. Diastolic dysfunction.

Thanks a lot !
So the lab tests to distinguish RC from CP is ECHO or EF ?

  #4

Restr. card.-
#1 ECHO ( thickened myocardium)+ systolic dysfunction.
   Endomyocardial biopsy may be diagnostic.

Constr. peric.-
CT scan or MRI  diagnostic test( most accurate than ECHO)

But initial test for both is EKG
