Program Name: GS baltimore

Date of Interview: 15th nov

Where did u stay, nearest hotel, travel etc: comfort Inn , I had to choose a hotel that was near by beacause weather forecast did inform about the showers in early morning

Level of "stress" (0-10): 2-3

How many interviewers: 3 iv , 2 by prof and one by resident . PD interviewed only 4 of the candidate. DIDNT INTERVIEW ME.

How many applicants: 20

Tour included visits to: floors, icu, ccu, ER, cafeteria ,department

Questions asked: ususal stuff, why to GS , why to USA, What do u think u have that will help program, wot is your future goal. The resident who took my interview was really nice and he was trying to give me serious advice for my match. Like he was asking me about the other program and he was rating other program for me . Surprisingly he had been honest.

happy residents: yes / no / ? : They said one thing "WE ALL DID WHAT WE WANTED TO DO" . I think they were being honest with us, they all told us that if we are looking for a cardiology or gastro fellowship then dont come to this place. Nephro and critical care were two fellowship that most of the people get from this inst. I think they did defend there program cos they didnt give any legitimate answer for the queston: " WEAKNESS OF PROG"

research oriented: yes / no / ? ;no

prematch offers? THEY HAVE NOT STARTED YET

visa sponsored? H1/J1:

City: Towson town something like 5 miles from the hospital was a good place, didnt visit baltimore downtown so cant comment about it .The area where exactly hospital was not considered to be a safe area

What I liked the most: PD was really a good person. He was a down to earth person. All residents appreciated him

What could be improved:

Rate experience (0-10): 7

Conclusion: Not a good program for those who are planning to do any research. The so called rotation provided at JHB are only in the field of the neurology, having not so much influencing affliatation with Hopkins. Happy residents and decent PD.

Program Name: GBMC

Date of Interview: Early December

Level of "stress" (0-10): 5

How many interviewers: 2

How many applicants: 4

Tour included visits to: Floors, units, ER, Cafeteria

Questions asked: One interview was by the PD and the other from another faculty member. After some questions on past experience and goals, they presented a clinical scenario and wanted us to tell them how we would approach the problem.

happy residents: yes / no / ? : yes

research oriented: yes / no / ? no

prematch offers? All the categorical position this year are through pre match (total 12)

visa sponsored? J1

City: Baltimore

What I liked the most: Good teaching. Residents seemed very friendly and supportive. Work hours managable as the patient load is not heavy. Cost of living not bad compared to other major cities like NY. Beautiful hospital and location. Very good ancillary services.

What could be improved: Interns do not partake in night floats. Not enough fascilities for cardiology, hence most patients are transferred elseware.( But appatently now all the Hopkins Cardiology faculty are practising in GBMC so this might change). Patient population lacks diversity. Mostly suburban population, lots of psych and detox patients as there is no psych unit. The interview day was not at all organised.

Rate experience (0-10): 6

Program Name: Johns hopkins Bayview

Date of Interview: mid Dec.

Where did u stay, nearest hotel, travel etc: I drove there from NYC

Level of "stress" (0-10): 0

How many interviewers: 5

How many applicants: 8 (1 IMG)

Tour included visits to: Each candidate is accompanied by an R2 right from the beginning of iv day(he contacted me even before the iv by phone), and the R2 will take u to wherever u wanna visit, other than the general places u ll visit in every place.

Questions asked: Actually before the iv, they've sent me a letter telling me what qs they will ask. They write different iv letter to every candidate according to their background(which is amazing, u need to write around 200 letters). The qs focus on what is ur career goal and how they can help u. It's more a consultation than an interview.

happy residents: yes / no / ? : yes

research oriented: yes / no / ? YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

prematch offers? IMG enter only by pre-match. They rank AMG in match only.

visa sponsored? J1

City: Baltimore

What I liked the most:
1. This program designs individual curriculum and program for each candidate(it's like an PhD student) and try their best to utilize all possible resources to help u succeed.
2. Most of the faculty are the best experts in the country, and many of them are actually chief in downtown hospital before. It's like u have many walking JAMA around you.
3. Small program size, like a family. Many of them come back joining faculty after fellowship.
4. Almsot all go into Hopkins fellowship. (A PGY3 said: if you are not as good, you have to go to Harvard for fellowship if you want cardiology)
5. Strong peer. (intern mainly from Hopkins and ivy league)

What could be improved: No(Safety is not an issue here, unlike downtown Osler program)

Rate experience (0-10): 100

Conclusion: What can I say? I'll rank this number, like most AMG do.
