if a pt presents with a h/o chest pain ...he also gives a h/o chronic alcoholism and smoking .in the end when u r doing councelling part ofcourse u have to do councelling for smoking and alcoholism both which r important risk factors.....how should we do coucelling of both together to save time.i mean if u start asking about CAGE questions for drinking and then do councelling for smoking it will take a lot of time................can anyone plz tell me how to manage our time in such cases???

yes. ALWAYS do CAGE and mention it in the PN. and while you are asking about the social history, and if it is positive, then ask if they are ready to quit.

just say something like have you thought about quitting drinking/smoking and if you are ready there many things that i can help you with.
