i saw this in UW CCS case no 55.it mentions emperic rx for meningitis is vanco + ceftrixone,so is mentioned in FA(stp 2-somehow i saw while prepering for CK all qts of UW had answers frm FA). but in kaplan and few websites that i searched,i found emperic Rx is only ceftrixone,Unless ofcource,the history makes something obvious. can anyone plz clarify,emperic rx for meningitis? thanks

EMPIRIC RX OF MENINGITIS Ceftriaxone 2 g IV q 12 hrs and Vancomycin 1 gr IV q 8 -12 h are recommended while culture result are pending ADD ampicillin for immucompromised patient and older than 50 yo WASHINGTON MANUAL

Doc clotaire: Ampicillin is added if the the patient is a neonate and if the age is above 50 when I think they also suspect listeria where the drug of choice is ampicillin
