silenced, M.D. wrote: Yeah, this could be a project we can involve ourself into after this Match is over while we wait for the start of residency. Hope we do get into residency. Lets see how it goes. Prueba, if you are still interested after the Match is over, keep in touch with me. Maybe we can pull something up with the little I know about HTML and web design. Sounds great SilencedMD, we should try that!

Program Name: Griffin Date of Interview: mid Nov Where did u stay, nearest hotel, travel etc: I drove to the hospital. Level of "stress" (0-10): 2 How many interviewers: 2 How many applicants: +-10 Tour included visits to: day started with breakfast (just applicants), next program presentation by PD (categorical), and PD (combined IM/MPH program). Before the tour: wrap up with the PD to answer lasts questions, and to talk about visa issues. Questions asked: why griffin, goals, etc...relaxed, no medical stuff... Since I applied for the combined I was asked about GRE, if I plan to take it, etc. happy residents: yes / no / ? : yes research oriented: yes / no / ? public health, the combined program has a nice curriculum. prematch offers? They do offer positions out of the match visa sponsored? H1/J1 City: Derby, suburban life...close to milford (10 min), new haven (20 min) What I liked the most: nice hospital, the opportunity to do the combined program (they sponsor your MPH at Yale School of public health). What could be improved: It’s a good program for what they can offer. You should probably do an outside rotation for HIV training for example, since they do not have much exposure. The good news is that they allow you to do so if interested. Rate experience (0-10): 7-8 (categorical), 8 (combined) Conclusion: I would say it is an OK program. If you do your categorical training probably it will be harder to get a fellowship. If interested in the combined program you will probably have better opportunities after graduation (jobs, fellowships).

Program Name: UCONN Date of Interview: Dec 2007 Where did u stay, nearest hotel, travel etc: drove. Level of "stress" (0-10): 1 How many interviewers: 3 (5min with PD, 10 min, and 30 min interviews How many applicants: around 20 (IMGs) Tour included visits to: usual stuff. UCONN plus St Fr. Or Hartford. Questions asked: laid back. Happy residents: yes / no / ? : yes Atmosphere: Mostly IMGs from India, Pakistan, Philippines. City, how is living there?: not very exciting. Reasonable cost of living Research oriented: yes / no / ? YES Prematch offers?: yes, they offer prematch. Visa sponsored?: JUST J1 What I liked the most?: great online learning tool What should be improved?: No outside electives, no night-float system, although they are planning to start at UConn (smallest hospital), Dinner (more space). Rate experience (0-10): 8.5 Conclusion: Is a good opportunity for IMGs. Good fellowship placement (probably because most are J1, and there are opportunities to do clinical and basic research). Busy program.

Program Name: Danbury Hosp Date of Interview: december Where did u stay, nearest hotel, travel etc: Best Western- 8 min from the hospital Level of "stress" (0-10): 2 How many interviewers: 2 How many applicants: 12 Tour included visits to: ER, cafeteria, ICU, medical floor, Questions asked: why our program? tell me about your experience in your country... happy residents: yes / no / ? : so and so research oriented: yes / no / ? not to much, but if you want they are pretty open prematch offers? yes for categorical visa sponsored? I don't know, I am a green card holder City: small, "in the middle of nowhere" town, very expensive though What I liked the most: the morning report and the "radiology" session What could be improved: it is hard to go in a fellowship from there, the interview day had a lot of "dead hours", not too many residents to talk with Rate experience (0-10): 7 Conclusion: Kind of ok program, lot of IMG , no to many fellowships opportunities, small and expensive town but they offer housing for the first year. I woudn't rank it very high in my LOR list.
