Books I studied: (u will feel weird, i say it before yu go on) CMDT (Current Medical Diagnosis and treatment) Davidsons Principles of Medicine Harrisons Internal Medicine (only review) Benson and pernoll's for OBGYN Ghai's Pediatrics (indian author, yu wouldnt know I guess) websites: www.emedicine.com, http://www.ahrq.gov/clinic/uspstfix.htm (for uspstf) and a few others (I dont have links now) Kaplan's videos only Dr. Steve (biostats and ethics); did not like kaplan books at all. most useful notes i felt was Dr. Conrad Fisher's Questions. usmleworld Qs r junk; but it is greatly helpful to tune urself to the atmosphere. its a must for preparation, i think. ignore the marks and material. they dont come even near reality. study duration: 48 days (started it in aug 1st week and gave the test on sep18th, I am posting very late. probs) the exam: hmm, it was not a surprise really. went fine for two blocks. mostly pathophysiology questions, i mean disease mechanisms. most questions tested this, not facts. >60% Qs dealt with patients >60 yrs old, strangely noticeable !! Hypertension (especially secondary Htn), DM, CAD, RA, SLE, hyperlipidemias were among the repeatedly asked topics. tellin yu the Qs is useless I think, gotta get these topics down at any cost in entirety. end of life issues in ethics big time. 3rd and 4th blocks were congested at the end, time insufficient. guys, time is really important. hope all know tht. the other blocks went fine, but the congestion of time was there for the last 10 questions in all blocks. not many purely peds Qs, i mean most peds Qs asked general medicine concepts. Gynobs was fairly straight forward, thought i answered most of them fine.the score report confirms it. most difficult were ethics, as anyone can guess. Steve's lectures helped. this forum was really useful, I am grateful to the guys around here. my score is 90 (219) ! so cant say this post is an advise, just sharing what i did as i am grateful to yu all. posted correlations in the first thread

ThnQ !but is it a gd score ?!! yes, here's why i feel so: Problem with UW Qs is: 1. too much emphasis on 'next step' pattern; this is important but look down: 2. very less pathophysiology Qs (disease mechanisms) 3. many USPSTF recommedations are either B/C/D type, this is not the case in USMLE; they say common diseases and tht is what they ask. I mean only Type-A recs 4. many fancy Questions; they might be good for All India entrances but nt for USMLE. I did not get any one question where I could say 'I just donno what he is talkin about';difficulty arises in decision making and clarity of concepts in mind. (infact, the first Q made me ponder a while, it was about pathogenesis of acute PSGN) the division of Qs in step2k for 2007 according to usmle.org: 15%-20% Promoting preventive medicine and health maintenance 20%-35% Understanding mechanisms of disease 25%-40% Establishing a diagnosis 15%-25% Applying principles of management anyone who did UW can tell its obsession with the next immediate step Qs (I got at max 5% next immediate step Qs. USMLE is pretty standard exam, they do what they say.) There were many un-updated USPSTF recommendations in UW. also UW expects u to by-rote these facts while USPSTF actually has logic for everything they say. By no means i am tellin tht u should not use UW. I donno if there is any other java based testing material. Java is the greatest adv for UW because time in steps is the most important.

uw is the best! of course everyone has the right to have an oppinion and disclose it to others but its too much to say its junk... i strongly believe i have got high scores on both st1 and 2 because of usmleworld and much less b/c of what i knew reading the books.
