It is written in FA that 10-20 % questions on Step 1 have been designated as experimental or incorrectly phrased. Is that true? I mean, did you really feel that some qs were unable to answer? Or maybe there are some really difficult question, that you can actually figure out the answer?

for some reason everyone says this magical number of ' 50' experimental questions. i personally think thats alot! i took exam on sept 22 and to be honest i came across only 2 questions that seemen to be experimental bc #1 the question had a spelling wording error that didnt make sense at all, i just skipped it. and another was some kind of weird weird graph of a PFT. now i studied PFT's VERY VERY WELL. i knew every graph in which fev and all that stuff could be presented and this question was like What the ^@&^@..... BUT really thats it. All the other questions i thought werent tricky, were well written and doable. of course i got some wrong bc i just didnt know it or most of time didnt have fast enough recall . But if 50 questions r automatically taken away bc there experimental than better news 4 me but i still dont believe that the number is 50. anyone else? please comment. im very curious.

I don't think anyone really knows exactly how many questions in a given exam are experimental. The scoring system the NBME uses is rather secretive.

Well I had a few questions where I had no clue what was being asked. specifically I remember my 3rda nd 6th block were horrible. I know one or two were purely because I didn't the related fact but that was that. I wouldn't worry abt experimentals. You have a lot more to study for. good luck

i think on exam day....u really dont have time to think about it. you kind of either know the answer or u dont. and on the ones i didnt know ..i didnt want to waste time on or try to figure it out bc i knew it would take me like 4-5 minutes (i had some weird PFT graph ) and than i would run out of time for the rest of the questions which were easier or that i knew well. I think Most questions Can eventually be figured out BUT TIME is an ISSUE. u gotta CHOOSE your BATTLES WISELY but i am a little nervous bc especially in my 3,5,6th block there were like 5-6 WTF questions and i just INSTANTLY took a guess and moved on . i just assumed they were experimental. I prob should not have done that But than again the TIME would of run out. owell......... I wish know one wouldve ever told me about these experimental questions! maybee i wouldve tried a bit harder on some of my WTF questions! we will soon see.......

Experimental questions r the ones which will literally boggle ur mind and u will be like a zombie. u will stare at it and think how the heck did they come up with this. The number may vary but the idea is to keep u on ur toes.

hey new-n-lost, i had one gross pic ,which of course i cant get out of my head BUT it was absolut. absurd, u think its possible for a pic to be an experimental? r expermentals always the obvious ones . i just read in FA that sometimes they put 'pretest' questions in that dont count (like u said to keep u on ur toes- some prob from the step 2 qbank). i dont think pretest quest's r same as experimental ? whats ur take. how many WTF questions were on yours?

A part of me actually enjoyed seeing those extremely weird questions bcos I would mark the first answer that came to mind and consequently save the time for more doable questions.

There was one question that had 5 options that I had honestly never seen before in my life. 60 secs saved.

Thanks for sharing your experience I was just curious about those qs. I know, that on exam TIME is an issue. I got 2 months to real thing and still a lot to study
