Hi everyone,

Sorry to disturb your precious study time, but I came upon some realization not too long ago, and have been applying it to my studying ever since. and i can tell you my studying has GREATLY improved. i am getting things done faster, feeling more confident, alas=)

now what i am about to say is a no brainer. it is COMMON SENSE, something you have learnt since you were a kid, family shows on tv always stressed it-lol. But it is something we all forget, and well if i had recalled this a year ago, i would have been done the step 1 by now!

i think its a lot easier to learn with an example, some experience, helps get the message across.

So i will discuss my studying experiences. I had a very useless prof in school for renal/git and since then i felt like, its hard, i can't do it, and have been in fear for so long of the topic.

i grudgingly got through it in kaplan, with more fear then information. what i learnt , i can not recall as embaressing as that is, esp because one git portion or renal portion from the physio book-took me almost a months time. and i am a very fast reader and learner, so this is very embaressing for me.

now im doing my quick review, and i grudgingly am very nervous about opening up git. i put down 3 days in my schedule for it, just the physio alone. something i can not afford but assume, its the hardest thing out there, i deserve some ease and comfort room.

so all i tell myself when i open the first page in my GIT notes (by the way a regular FA chapter on git might be hmm 10 pages-most.. mine is about 35, i added ALOT of notes of my own, u kno when you think its too hard and add alot of useless info to ake you feel relieved, though when you learn the informaiton you realize-okay i gota stop repeating my notes lol). so anyways i tell myself, read the first page, and dont cry-thats all i want. lol.

we all know FA is gold, so if i know that one page i can maybe get a question right on the exam, so that one page is highly worth it. so i sit n read that one page. i am confused by the first few words, so i take my sweet time, clock in 15 mins to read that page, and that relaxes me that i just have to read that one page and learn it, thats what i expect. rather then going in with teh burden of "read the whole thing-know it well-ace UW for it" .

and lo and behold that first page, ofcourse was hard for me, but SO doable. i mean ofcourse i gota pause , think , look at a source but hello its medicine. and i already know its hard for me. so what do i expect, it wont be a smooth slide , if its hard-ofcourse not!

then i do the second, the third. before i know it, 4 hours is up and i have finisehd the entire sectoin of physio of GIT. i was SHOCKED.

and alot of times hwen i read , i just memorize a bunch of info like, proteins from here, reabsorbs that, bla bla. and u know i just walk around with that paragraph in my brain, and a few days later, its out, cuz its just junk that makes no sense to me. well think about it-if it makes no sense, WHY would u remember it?! it will weigh down your shoulders, weigh down your brain, and in such a stressful time, ofcourse you will let go of anything that sounds useless to u. right?!

so i told myself, if i will read one paragraph i wont move til i know that paragraph. and what is so great is, its always quite simple. because one paragraph of FA, will explain the following 2 paragraphs. and when you are 5 pages into it, you can flip to the first to secure that page you are currently frusterated over. so the time spent on one thing, is not wasting your time, its greatly increasing the chances of you understanding it all! and again, its in FA-so you know its not useless junk.

so i applied this topic to my REnal today. and let me tell you. i could jump and cry with happiness. i told myself again, relax stop stressing. you have to get through it regardless- so if your going to be bitter, the read will be bitter. i starte dwith one page, and continud. i admit i am still not done, i had some stuff to tend to-but i am getting there. and after a few mins to jog the noggin, i can recall what the page says and why, and how and if-lol.

everyone this might sound so useless. but its REALLY IMPORTANT.

never go into a read , negative. scared etc. if you do that, your brain puts up a bias automatically and what you read sounds like gibberish automatically. andyou tell yourself "well i told you it was hard, whatever if you dont undrestand it-its hard remember"

just give your self a tiny task and continue. if you fret right away, you wont get anywhere.

i applied this to CNS-something that is my favorite topic, but i havent done it in so long. i was scared that it would be so tough. but really now, each topic CAN be done in 2 days. if you have read it at one point. this is only if your notes are up to date, high yield, and you dont have to riffle through other books to get the missing link in bw.

i can not stress this enough. please listen to this. if its common sense-GREAT. just giv eyourself that confidence boost we can sometimes be down on.

we have grown up hearing, you can do it-dont let yourself get bitter, dont be negative-yada yada. but how often do we listen to htis. i just think its something someone says to make you happy, but its false hope. but i realize the power of those words today.

give yrourself a snobbish almighty attitude, as in "psh thats it, i can do better then this" your psychological attitude, will kick in ,and try to excel yourself!

most of you will read this, nod along. or roll your eyes at what a waste of time-thats fine im not asking for anything in return.

just.. do it. next time u sit down, tell yourself, its easy to do. dont get scared. and you will be surprised.

i have been scared of so many topics, grudgingly gotten through it. now with this new attitude, im flipping back to books and understanding

its medicine, techincially its like math, it ALL makes sense. tehre is a way to figure out hte why, what how? ,all of that is able to be discovered. but we fail to see that, assume its hard because its hard and move on. if you dont get something-figure out why other people do, what link you are missing. break it down to the basics.

please do what i ask. just nex time you study, tell yourself how easy it really is, and to NOT BE SCARED.

if you get scared automatically you will resent it, and keep excusing why you dont understand it.

funny story: we had this head /neck class in school. the day we started, the older students told us it was very very very hard, and only 12 students pass a year. so right away we all started complaining, slacking off, assuming its just too hard, we will never get it. like we just didnt connect anything for some weird reason. we got a fake quiz, and most of us failed. later when we took up the test it was SOooooooooooooo EASY. it was embaresing. stuff we should have known it was a introductory quiz. and we realized that, we had set ourselves up for a fail, by going in with a bias.

and iw illhave you know the pass rate in class was a 85% . thanmk you very much. so not 12 kids passed, ALOT MORE DID.

okay i will stop talking and study lol bye bye
