I did the exam 29th of August in phily, only me is img, the others are amgs. Felt really bad about two encountrs and patients notes, but passed CIS and ICE and failed SEP. What should I do? take kaplan courses or find personal tutors or conversational english class? anyone can suggest? thanks in advance.

I say skip the english classes, and tutors. Just go out and start talking to people. Part of the skills of being a good physician is to be able to put people at ease, and get them to open up and trust you quickly. And the only way your going to do that is by appearing to show genuine concern. In any case, the best suggestion I can give you, is just start talking to people. Go to starbucks and strike up a conversation with any random person there. Sure you'll feel like a weirdo and people will think your psycho. But once you do it a few times, and learn the right things to say it will lossen you up. And once that happens you'll be able to walk up to people, and have a casual conversation at ease. Which is exactly what they want to see on CS. good luck!

you know, i chat with every person i interact with. when i buy coffee, and i ask if it has been busy in the shop. while i buying groceries i chat with the cashier... talk about the weather, comment that the day is almost over. even saying good morning to your neighbors.... or you can ask for directions. or go to the library and ask the librarian to suggest a book, and chat with them. it is about small talk. it will help. also make eye contact and smile.

springbird, do you speak engliah at home? evryday? do you really thing you are bad in English? Can you remember having any troubles with patients? I also failed on SEP and it was my second attempt. On frist attempt english was the highest score. Everything looks weird. I am speaking with my american-born husband evryday, as well with other people...I wander, what criteria SP uses for english.

Muxia. I had the same as you, I passed both ICE and CIS with high scores and failed the SEP and i actually got a lower, not even border line performance. I do not know but my english is acceptable and I did not notice any of SPs to have difficulty to understand me or ask me to repeat a question. I took the exam at Chicago, what about you?
