I garnered first interview couple days ago making me very happy. Only to find out that the program had list of documents that i needed to furnish before I get interview date. One in particular wanted to make sure I had psychiatry, medicine, surgery, pediatrics rotation of 4 weeks (I am applying categorical medicine) My program only had two weeks of dedicated psych rotation. I sent them the documents only to be asked again to submit documents that reflects 4 weeks of psychiatry rotation. Is this common? I never knew such detailed requirement existed for programs.

Hi Sachida, Congrats for the IV. I suppose the detailed rotations would be required by some IL program ( I am just guessing). I dont think its common for programs to ask for such details but if they do, we are left with no option. Well, I too have 2 weeks psych rotation and was just wondering how to go about it if asked to give a proof of 4 weeks psych rotation. I have read some where that 2 weeks neurology rotation can be added instead. Whats your take on this?

No idea about neurology rotation. This is NJ program. I also dont have neuro roation listed seperately. Rather, all those rotations were under umbrell term of "medicine". I have emailed PC, I will let you all know what happens. Meanwhile, If BBB can shine some light on this issue, it will be of great help

It could be a licensing requirement in the state that you have 4 weeks of a certain rotation. And if you don't have it, then you wouldn't be able to be licensed in that state. That's the only thing that I can think of.

bbb, Thanks for your help, I truly appreciate your great contribution to this forum. Sachida, Plz do let me know what ever you hear from the PC. Due to family reasons I have applied in IL mostly and am concerned about the IL liscense requirements.

You might be able to get your neurology rotations to count as part of the 4 week requirement, but Im not sure.

Does internship in your country counts here as this 4 weeks of rotation?

And this requirement was for IM programme? That is harsh. I know psychiatry has that requirement. Thanks for pointing this out.

BBB was right on money. PC wrote back saying that it is requirement of NJ residency training permit. I will have to write back and try to convince them to extend interview while I somehow manage to go back to my school and do extra two weeks of rotation. As far as internships go, I did not do any in psychiatry so I am unsure how this may benifit me. But others might have different outcome. I will update on my success/failure as I further communicate. Medockuk, I am applying to categorical medicine program only. So yes, this is new to me and probably many others.

Rx 135, yes ped also 4 weeks. Here is what I had Medicine 34 wks, Surgery 34 wks, OB/Gyn 20 wks, Ped 12 wks, Psych 2 wks I am still perplexed why IM categorical program would require same amount of experience in other specialities (each 4 wks of surgery and psych). Beats me.
