Hi all, I am in a dilemma. I have IV in Maimonides on Nov 1st and when I checked all the hotels are pretty costly in NYC and I was thinking of staying near Newark airport. But I don't have any idea about the public transport in NYC. Any body from New york, Please tell me is it possible to reach Maimonides which is in Brooklyn before 9.00 am, If I start early and at what time should I start?..

In case youre taking a flight, try to book both flight and the hotal via orbitz. That might be more cost efficient. Otherwise look for one of the YMCA hostels. But I heard you gotta be a mem for it. Good luck to you for the match atticus!

If u really wanna a cheap hotel, try the ones in Flushing and Queens. They r the cheapest, ranging from 30 to 60 per night. Taking MTR there would rapidly arrive Brooklyn. Definitely not live in Newark. It's far and snail slow in the rush hours.

From Newark to Brooklyn is this: Take NJ Transit train from EWR to Penn Station Manhattan (believe you change at the Newark Airport stop to change for Manhattan bound trains on the Northeast Corridor line of NJ Transit). RT Train fare is around $17-20. Then once at Penn Station, exit and walk EAST 2 blocks to Macy's and take the "D" train (Broadway line, station entrance by Macy's at Herald Sq, 34th and Broadway) towards Brooklyn. D train to 50th Street Station in Brooklyn (will leave you at 50th and 11th Avenue) Maimonades Hospital is 3 blocks up on 10th Ave and 48th Street, you can see it from the elevated train station. One way subway ride is $2. So less than $15 each way from EWR to Brooklyn. Allow 2.5 hours each way to commute. (one hour EWR-Penn Station Manhattan ride and 45 minutes subway ride from Manhattan to Brooklyn plus walking time).

Thanks a ton every one. I was really worried about it as i am traveling from west coast for the IVs.. I don't dare to drive in NYC.. MPH I checked every where, But couldn't find accommodations for those rates.. When I checked the map, Both Newark and flushing seem to be almost same distance from Maimonides. I haven't decided yet which one yet.. Best of luck,

Hmmmm.........Newark may be close to NYC ON THE MAP, but remember you are crossing state lines here (NJ to NY). Second, traffic is like HELL going into the city in the morning. If you take train, it will be crowded, and will throw off your concentration. If you take taxi, traffic will delay you, and your driver will charge you arm and leg. Maybe someone is more familiar, but Id take the closer hotel for some extra bucks just to save time and energy. Good luck...........

atticus.. newark is well connected to nyc by train and bus...but as minang pointed out...to reach the hosp. at 8 am , u wud havta leave by 5-5.30 atleast!!!..esp since u not used to travel in nyc...some hotel either in the city or in the boroughs is ur safest bet..but if nothin, the newark plan looks ok...u wont have much traffic or crowds anyways at 5 in the morning!! gd luck

possible to stay in Newark, but the commute is gonna be long... best bet is to stay in brooklyn and get a cab straight to the hospital on the day of your interview... try confort inn or econo logde... usually cheaper than others... try hotels in Brooklyn...

Econo Lodge (NY220) 113-18 Rockaway Blvd South Ozone Park, NY, US 17 Free Contl. Breakfast, Non-Smoking Rooms, Whirlpool Tub Rates from $109.99 per night. Quality Inn (NY417) 2473 Atlantic Ave. Brooklyn, NY, US 2 Free Contl. Breakfast, Free High Speed Wireless Internet, Non-Smoking Rooms, Wireless Internet Rates from $129.99 per night. also check Expedia.com you most likely won't get anything cheaper than $100/night... but staying in Newark and trying to get to brooklyn the morning of your interview i think is too risky...

Thanks a lot coca cola, Prader villi, At last I chose the safer option. Booked a room in Brooklyn.. Comfort Inn. I think it is 1.8miles from Maimonides. because I waited for 2or 3 days Price changed from 115$ to 146$ including taxes.. Still i think It is better since I don't want to be late and looked tired on the IV day..
