hi prader villi, im just giving u information from what i spoke with a lawyer regarding the same problem ,he adviced me that it would take 3 months atleast to get the visa back and say for example ur visa expires on the 1st of january ,and u have already applied for the extension, say if it doesnt arrive on time and comes a week later after the expiry ,if ur visa is granted then its good ,but if it is rejected then the 1 week overstay would be considered as illegal,so u have to be care ful, dont plan for short term any more questions ur wellcome shiva

My application for an extension was approved. However, they still didn't give me enough time to take Step 3.

@xthine: what reason can they accept your extension appropriately (Kaplan center course or short-term course in a college or something else) ? If you can make it, I will follow right away. Thanks in advance.

^Hi! The reason I gave them was solely to take Step 3. They only gave a little over a month extra to stay, which was not enough time for me to finish my preparation for my exam in May.
