I think it's gonna be hard to get a spot as a research assistant. PhDs are prefered for thispositions. Also it's gonna be hard to get a paid position in research as probably you have no experience. (I know a girl who got one in Virginia U w/o prior exerience). The position/term you're looking for is research fellow/fellowship. Good luck

no dude, the position is called research assistant only and yes, u need visa for that, j1 or h1....i was already in US on dependent visa when I volunteered for this position in neuroscience reasearch and in 2 months I got offer for h1b visa and paid job on same position. but do remember its very difficult to get the initial start without experience, i applied to around 100 places before i got this oppportunity and all rejections were due to lack of researhc experience, but god is great, ultimately I could get it......

hi RX.many of colleagues have got it, but atleast some rsrch xperience is req. Altho publication is not a must. Visit the pages of all uni. more than half offer the post-doc researcch jobs. Most of them offer J1. They are paid. And search this site well. Prep4USMLE has a gr8 answers for all ur queries. BOL
