I wonder how candidates are organizing their schedules.
Do you read by classical subjects ie:anat-pathology-micro etc or do you ead by system ie: cvs-respi system?
I am preparing a kind of schedule for my second reading.I sort of sutied subject by subject untill first week of november(first reading for my second attempt).
I think I will opt for my second reading to read system by system exactly like FA edition 2007 is organised.
This way I can read FA simultaneously with my other resources(mostly Kaplan).
Do you think this is a good approach?

I think this is a great approach for the subsequent reads specially after FA format was changed from subject-based to system-based, I am thinking of doing the same in my 2nd read.

Good luck

hi there

i HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it by organs.

i know in most med schools we learnt it by subject which is a good way to apply the theory to each organ , through one bok.

but the test is not going to be that way . they will throw in some info about a bacteria, how it infects the brain give you some physio chart, and ask you what is contraindicated. lol just an example.it will mixup so much of the subjects.

i am not too sure about fa 07-but i have 06-and it is organized byboth. the first is by subject of biochem, micro, immuno, behavioral , pharm intro.

then it is by organ. i think this is a very good way to learn . it will help you feel more confident when u can talk about any part of the body and its physio, its patho and the wayt o fix it.

all of my friends who have taken the exam said it is organized completely by organ.

which is a very interesting thing since every time someone posts about their exam expereience they NEVER discuss waht organs came up lol. just what subjects did.

i hope i helped.

i also think there is a kaplan set ofbooks based on systems review, keep ur eye out, they might help.

Hi yunuz,
thanks for ur post in my journal. i think ur option is great ..doing by systems. if u have FA 07 and is comfortable with that..u shud go for that coz it will work well for u.
bt as for me..i have FA 05..which is subject wise..and i dont have much time left for my exam..so no time to read in a new way.so i think i shud stick to the subject wise method.
GL to you. smiling face

in fa , by organ it is about 10-15 pages. its about one page of drugs to remember.

now imagine pharmacology, it is so tricky. would you rather remember one page, or 30 pages?

one page right, so why ont do it by organ, worry about that one tiny page regarding ur organ, then when the nxt organ comes around u do that organs pharm

on teh test, they will throw biochem, physio, path, etc at you, regarding an organ. you wont have time to flip through your mental FA of 600 pages and wonder. you will have time to narrow it down to what organ and apply the 30 page of knowledge asap

oh i was just about to say.

for those who have already studied it a certain way in FA, they haev at the beginning page, the cover page, on the back it divides it up for you basedon your preference.

so you can take your subject wised practice, and turn to the pages for that particular organ.

tust me i switched methods in the middle and i am so thankful i did
