Dear BBB or other friends:

1. I noticed that on FREIDA, it is mentioned that some programs offer "preliminary positions". Does this mean this program offer prematch, or it just means the program provide first year transitional training? i am really confued about this.

2. BBB, as far as you know, is there anywhere we can check if a program offer prematch?

3. If it is appropriate to ask PC or PD if the program offers premacth?

4. Is it really case by case, even a program with prematch history doesn't necessarily mean it will offer prematch THIS YEAR?

Thanks for BBB, I know these couple of months must be the extremely busy time for you, and I am sure everybody on this forum does apprecaite your time and help for us. We may never see you or know who you exactly are, however, you have been an important figure in our career, and many years later, when we recall this tough and frustrating period of application and match, we will always recall the warm words from you, and, sure, all the warm words from everbody on the forum.

1. Transitional and prelim are very similar, but they are both a one year program of training. They are not necessary a prematch. That's completly different.

2. No - no central location

3. Yes, it's okay. Some programs will, some won't

4. Correct - every application year is different and the NRMP/AAMC/ACGME want programs to use the match exclusively, although it's not mandatory now.

Thanks for your kind words. It's words like this that make me hang out on a Saturday night, when there is nothing on the TV and I should be re-building the web page that I destroyed......(always double check when the computer asks "are you sure" when you delete information....shocked - that's about how I looked. Slow process, rebuilding a web page.
