The correct answer is D.
The disease is poliomyelitis, which is caused by the poliovirus, a picorna virus. The virus is spread via the fecal-oral route and can then cause paralysis by infecting the alpha-motor neurons of the anterior horn of the spinal cord. Early symptoms include malaise, headache, fever, nausea, abdominal pain, and sore throat.

Bacterial and fungal infections can be spread by dirt contact with an open wound (choice A).

AIDS is an example of a disease spread by injection (choice B) or exchange of body fluids.

Malaria is an example of a disease spread by mosquitoes (choice C).

Tetanus is the classic example of disease spread by a puncture wound of the foot (choice E).
