i have been finding the ans of this question but no book seems to explain it. all the time, it is written that it occur in the skin.
i dreamt sometime ago that on the exam day i saw the image of the skin with arrows pointing to the various layers and i was asked to chose where 7 dehydrocholesterol is converted to vit D3.
definitely it will not be the stratum corneum bcoz it is non nucleated and full of keratin. it will not have the necessary enzyme to make such a vit.
the malpighian layer? maybe, but it more a reproductive layer than sinthesis.
stratum granulosum? can be, because it is this layer that prevents the skin from desication. but i have not found it to be the cells that make vit D3.
i have thought of the langherhans cells, maybe. just like most macrophages, it has numerous enzymes and might also have that necessary for vit D3 synthesis.

what do u think guys?
