I remember a PD telling me once how important it was for him to see what the applicant did in all that time since graduation. Some things were more acceptable (to him) situations than others. And the discussion was mainly about American graduates, not foreign.

Probably your visa status is the problem and you did not mention any USCE this is very important and your graduation year also is a problem
