A 40-year-old woman comes to the office with complaints of burning and tingling sensations in
the left hand for several months. She relates that she has been frequently awakened at night
by aching pain in the same hand. She is otherwise in good health. Examination fails to detect
any impairment in sensation, but pain is elicited by extreme dorsiflexion of the wrist. The
patient is unable to correctly identify different clothes by rubbing between the left thumb and
index finger.
