Forgot to add, I will take USMLE probably in July or August 2008 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Now I am finishing my Pediatric rotation. Somehow I find that whatever is learnt on Step 1 is useful in helping me understanding a lot more in pediatrics, and what I've learnt in pediatrics have helped me understanding the clinically-oriented step 1.

Well, I think I'm at a very disadvantage here. I tried 25 practice questions in Kaplan, I can only answer ONE of them. But I got 40% though... Guess, luck counts eh?

Seriously, inferiority complex sad

Hi Efenem!
Cheer up! You know why everybody scores low on Kaplan Diagnostic test a free sample qs?! It' s easy: they put the most difficult questions in those test to make you feel dump and scared and therefore buy their product: Live lectures, Center pass...

Thanks for making me feel better but I think no one is that "dumb" confused to be able to answer only 1 out of 25. I seriously have to work ten times harder than all of you guys, altho my exam is next summer...

I'm starting embryology now. Not sure if it's a good idea, but I will try finish in 2 weeks. Somehow I managed to borrow a book "Human Embryology and Development" by Carlson (Elsevier).

I would recommend you to focus in HY subjects, embriology and anatomy are low yield.
Also dont try to know everything by the first read, if you study minor details at first you will stall on that subject (it happened to me), just try to get the whole picture. I know you want to ace the test and you want to be a surgeon, so logically it would pay off to know anatomy very well and it will pay in the long run, BUT for right now your mission is to ACE the test and get residency it will not matter if your name is Gray or Grant or Moore, because you need a high score first to get the residency then youll study anatomy.

Just my two cents

Now my rotation is operative surgery, which means I have to learn Anatomy all over again. Somehow I think studying anatomy for gives me advantage to both USMLE and Operative Surgery Examination.

I think I can understand clinically-oriented cases much clearer now. But still, I think I am very slow to progress for USMLE.

Hi, I've finished anatomy... not really finished, but at least I understand most part of it. I'm just wondering if it's a good idea for me to start Behavioural Science now or not.

Somehow I do have 2nd thoughts of studying Biochemistry or Neurology (my next clinical rotation would be neuro). Now my I've a relatively light subject which is ENT.

Is Behavioural Sc. a low yield subject that can be crammed at the final month of my preparation? Just need opinion thanks.
