BBB and others I would like to know when it is the best timing for my most wanted IV's. I've heard that the closest to january the better because u are more used to IV's plus programs will remember u the most when they do their ranking in february. But I have also heard that leaving them for last lets programs know that you don't care very much for their program. I have also been told that december and first weeks of january are the best. What do u guys think? Also I wanted to know if programs do their final ranking until february or if they start adding desired candidates as Iv's are in process leaving those with the last IV's out. I'm really worried and confused, hope u guys can help me with this. Take care and thanks for your time in advance, bye!

No correlation - I looked at recruitment data (interview date vs match) and there was no differnece between early, middle or late. This is two years of data.

Thank you so much BBB I guess I can schedule with ease now. Thank you very much for your quick response! Would u care to tell us if within your program the rank list is done after all IV's are over or u start ranking through IV season? I'm really curious to know this from someone who is inside, thanks again!!

My program has a meeting after all the interviews are over. All the files are spread on a table, we review pictures so we know who we are talking about, how well an applicant seemed at ease with the other applicants in the room, if they only talked with people with a language link. We looked at how a person dressed, how good the scores are, if both persons in a couples match did well on their interviews. We look at if they pissed me (the kiss of death is being rude to a coordinator) or another resident off (it's happened), or coudln't talk with the program director because they were scared (it's happened - we call it the "deer in the headlight" interview. We look at the fine line between being anxious and hopeful and being pushy. We have sodas, snacks, and if the meeting goes late enough, we have an adult beverage (well, some do, some don't). We've ordered pizzas.

jajaja sounds like fun BBB!! Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart! I really needed to hear this. I am more calm now...hope all other programs do this..I think most of them do...also hope I don't have the "deer in the headlight" experience jajaja LOL that was very funny! So in your experience if a candidate performed great during IV would you remember him or her even if he/she interviewed early? Just curious... Sorry for the bunch of questions you've been so nice! God bless and have a great day!

bbb, I'm so sad I'm not applying to IM programs...!! (I have done a residency in my home country in Pediatrics, and IM is no more an option for me) Because I would definitely have liked to be on your program, at least as an interviewee...!! thanks for the Insightful inside stories tht many of us don't have access to. Please keep up the good work. any advice on how one can avoid being seen as rude to the PC...? I mean, something we do inadvertently might set the PC off on a rage. I surely don't want the "kiss of death", that's why I'm asking...!!

Sorry for the bunch of questions you've been so nice! God bless and have a great day! That's why pictures are really important. I may not remember your name, but I will remember a face. I remembered a resident who interviewed with me, came back as a Hem Fellow, and stayed as staff. He reminded me one day - and I was able to remind him what we talked about (Travel and a mutual friend).

1. Don't ask me to make copies of your extra letters, publications, etc. You should have copies made to just hand out. PC's are busy enough on an interview without having to do work for an applicant. It sounds petty, but if there are 15 applicants and they all want copies......you get the picture. 2. Don't look the coordinator in the eye and tell her (or him) that you had to cancel three other interviews to make this one because I wouldn't change your inteview date. It was because I couldn't change your date - Do you think I purposely went out of my way to screw with someone's life? 3. Don't be the person who disappears for 30 minutes. There is a schedule and we all have to stick to it. Two candidates took off for a half hour, completely screwed up the plan for when they were going to interview, etc. Where did they go??? I don't know if I want to know....... The best advice? Be pleasant, be courteous, be nice.

Dear BBB, I have a question regarding the documents....since one of my letters will be scanned maybe tomorrow... and I have my first interview in a couple of weeks. I am wondering what to do about this. Is it likely that the letter will be on my file? Do program coordinators update our files before interviews? or does it go just as it was evaluated initially.... Do PC update our files after IVs? I am askings this because I waived all my letters and I won't be able to bring them to interviews. Thank you,

Then you cancel interviews as soon as you can. Nothing is worse than coming in on an interview morning and having a cancellation phone call from 8pm the night before. I can't fill it at that time.

Thank you, Most PCs contact ERAS at least once a day during interview season. Personally, I don't print an application until about 24-48 hours before the interview. I try and save a couple of trees.

Dearest BBB, With all this insider advice, you have soothed many frayed nerves here on this forum..including mine!!! I cant thank you enough for that, genuinely!!!!!! 2 quick questions for you...I will be getting a letter from a really bigshot doctor but i think it will be uploaded only by around Nov 1st...since it is waived, i wont have a copy to take for the interviews...I will assign to all programs at that time... 1) do you think I should mail all the PCs to request them to have the PDs read this letter at that time in case they havent rejected me by then?? 2) In case I have been called for an interview, will this new letter be available for the PD atleast during the interview so that I can talk about it?? Thanks again...sorry for the trouble. God bless

That's a 50-50 chance - it's going to depend on when the program prints the interviews if they have the new letter.
