Hi guys, I had a question on confidentiality. Can we break confidentiality when for example, The patient has suicidal history and on current visit is displaying clear suicidal behavior. Lets say at the same time we have to tell him some bad news , i.e. he has some intractable cancer. Do we still have to tell him? Another example is if the patient is in the cardio ICU just recovering from a heart attack and you know that the news of cancer might send him into another attack. In the BS lectures, Daugherty says that you have to tell him no matter what, but break the news in such a way that he does not have a heart attack. What is the best option in these cases?

daughtry is absolutely right ------------u have to tell 2 the pt abt his illness BUT in a way that doent harm himand at a right time as in this case ----------assses any risk of harm to the pt andtell the pt at app time---------this is not callled break of confidentiatialioty.its in the good faith of the pt.
