hi
i started to do UW qs after my first reading and i scored sometimes good(55-60%) and sometimes very bad(20-30%)disapproval
i do the qs by each subject seperately and besides each suject i read its book, but why is my scores differ too much?and when i read the answers and do the qs again i score higher, because i remembered many of the qs and i marked them as soon as i saw them...is it happened to others?or it is just me?
i read many times in this forum that people who passed the exam with good score are saying that they do the qs 60-70%,is this score related to before and after they read the answeres(i mean when somebody remember the answer the score is not the real score) or they got these scores at first time that they do the qs?
when i compare my score with average i think that i am so out :confused
my average score is around 40-45% and i don't know what to do ?i have just 2 months to my examshocked

and something else...i read biochemistry, immuno, patho ,physio, and histo but now i think i forgot many of the concepts that i read from these books?what should i do ?is this happen to any one?sad
please help me...

Hi, it is normal that everybody got somewhat depressed when they start UW.

When you started it is better not to take too much concern on the score.Concentrate on reviewing your notes and studying their explainations than doing many questions a day. Better score in second time don't reflect your real performance. You can even got 100% when you repeat. I would like to suggest you to use First aid to score up in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmaco, Immuno, and Embryo. Subjectwise approach you are doing is good at this time because it is easy to read back weak areas. To tell you honestly, the variation in score means that you still have to read back very thoroughly.

When i did UW I have completed Kaplan Notes and FA twice and have done Kaplan Qbank. And I did it along with my third revision on Kaplan.I started UW one month before exam and started with 65-70%. I did unused timed questions only. I did 50 questions a day. Read all the explinations carefully including those i did right. 3/4 of study time spent on reviewing and only the rest for doing questions. I got cumulative score of 76% at the end. You still have enough time to improve it. Don't let your self down. If you have any qusestin pls let me know.
Good luck

UW is supposed to be used as a learning tool and not a performance assessment tool - as said by the UW authors themselves. if you perform good thats encouraging, but if you fare bad, dont' get too disappointed.

thanks nyimalay for your kindness,it is very helpfull for me,you are right,i have to read more instead of doing more qs....
i am wondering if you can tell me when you compare uw qs with the real exam how much uw qs and their explanations help you in exam to answer right? you think what score do i have to get at least in uw (i maen my average score) to get a 90+ in the exam?

Hi,
Not all questions in real exam are as tough as UW. At least for my exam, i think there were about 50% like UW. 10-15% harder and the rest were easier. According to seinors, UW socre of above 70 is sure for above 90 in real exam. There is a formula that correlate: 2.44xUW plus 70 = real exam score. But as you can foresee, real exam is real, stressful and there are many other factors that can make you perform less. So take care with score correlation. I m still waiting my result so I couldn't say how it works for me.

Hi! i had the same questions as u in the beginning (when i first started doing usmleworld. i got soo preoccupied with the score that i found myself just answering as fast as i could just so i could get my score at the end of the 50 questions! if that makes sense. Later. i realized what was going on. decided not even to look at the score and do it in tutor mode. i read through EVERYTHING! slowly . this reduced my stress and maximized my learning. i am waiting for my results. BUT during the exam I was soooo HAPPY. I felt like i was sitting in my bedroom just doing usmleworld questions! im not kidding, you will see. the exam screen is identical to usmlwworld. and questions are aout 2-3 lines . i maybee had 15 that were 5or more. QUestions really help prepare you for real thing. i did about 200 a day the last month. i think its equivalent to going through F.A .because the week before exam i went through fa for the first time. and i really felt i already knew most of the stuff just from doing questions over and over. So keep trukin.... and dont worry about scores. if anything worry about how many questions you can go through in a day and dont waste time. You will get better at them and it willn pay off for exam. well at least i hope it did for me smiling face hope this helps. goodluck
